Mad Mitch
When asked if he was pleased to be back on the podium he replied, Yes ,was looking for the win but my mind seems to be someplace other than speedway at the moment. or words similar to that. Maybe just an off hand remark but maybe tells why he,s not at the same level as last season?
iris123
Maybe now he is at Poole he has the "Not really bothered about the Gps" mentality that Bjarne and Ed have?

Eastie
Perhaps he has realised he isnt going to improve any more and some of the other young riders are. Nicki was only half fit last year with his arm injury and now fully fit was bound to improve on his showing last year. Or after Rickardsson retired he doesn't like the pressure of being No. 1 Edited July 1, 2007 by Eastie

Ghostwalker
i think its always hard to defend your title. Not many people have done that through the years before not Loram, not Nicki not Crump, not Hancock or Billy Hamill. Its always a big pressure on these riders to perform good in the GP series and when you are the camp its alot of extra pressure and i would guess that its not easy to live up to all that pressure. Its still many races to go in the Gp series but i dont think that crump will be involved in the title fight. I do believe that he will be back on track next year and then be more hungry to re-claim the champ title.
rabbit
Think you're right Ghostwalker. Psychologically Crump has the right way of deflecting attention by admitting he's not at the races. People will say 'oh well fair enough' rather than him talking the talk and not performing. Take sthe pressure of him. He's still 6th (I think) and the points are close between a lot of riders - still a long way to go. And I'm not even a Crump fan

He's only 3 behind bomber. I'm not a Crump fan in the least, so tbh I'm not too bothered about the fact that he isnt riding the best. I prefer to watch him ride in the league tbh, helping the young riders out. Shows a better side of him.

His head wasn't in a GP place, or somesuch. It could just be a divertionary tactic, or it may actuallybe the truth.
Trees
I picked up on his genuine congratulations to Chris Harris and the british fans I dunno if anyone else noticed but he tapped Chris on the behind and must have told him to stand in the car and enjoy his winner's parade and then made sure he didn't fall down back in the car with a steadying arm too (his fatherly instinct eh nice touch Jason)
Drew
As some of you have said it is not easy defending the title. Remember the night he endured the last time he rode in Cardiff with the no1 plate on his bike! Anyway it was his best performance so far this season and I personally thought he was very gracious in defeat and complimentary of Bomber's acheivement in his interview. beesboybert
I too picked up on those comments and thought they were a bit strange. Would be interesting to know the full story. Crump showed that he is a true champion with the way he seemed genuinely chuffed for Bomber, weheras Hancock just looked very bitter. Good to see Crump back on the podium and back on form. Will make for an interesting end to the season if he can carry on with that kind of form
paulr
Crump seemed genuinely chuffed for Bomber, weheras Hancock just looked very bitter. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really ?? - all Ive read here from everyone else is how gracious Crump & Hancock were in defeat. Then again Im not sure I would be a happy camper if Id just been passed on the last bend in the GP final.... Maybe he shouldnt suck lemons when theres TV cameras around ?? SCB
He just didnt seem as genuine as Crump did to me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, someone else whos' got Hancock sussed. That false grin often covers things up.

He helped Crumpy steady Bomber whilst on the victory parade and was happy enough to be lifting him on his shoulders. If you want to look for bitter read Nicki's post GP comments. superjoe
Why should Hancock, or any other rider be pleased that Harris won, it means that they didnt win. I would be bitter too if someone just passed me on the last bend of a gp to take the win. Think people make too much of riders getting along and shaking hands etc, at the end of the day they are there to win, Hancock was in fact quite magnanimous in defeat. Another thing that annoys me is how Commentators and pundits always try and get other riders to praise the brits during interviews ( and team GB during the world cup) but thats another point for another time
Reviresco
I have never been a fan of Crump jnr (and certainly not of Crump snr) and neither have I been a great fan of American speedway riders for various (non-drug) induced reasons, but my opinion of both was greatly enhanced by the way Messrs Crump & Hancock seemed to, almost without any pre-thought, hoist Chris BOMBER Harris on their shoulders on the podium on Saturday. A genuine display of respect & affection, imo, for a guy who could maybe, hopefully, just change the fortunes of the sport we all love in this country. Well done everybody for a fantastic sporting (in both respects) spectacle. Stay Safe & Prosper all you who care.
John Hannibal Thomas
I think Crump has lost his edge, you can tell by how negative he is. Maybes he too was going to sign for the Diamonds until he saw this article.
