star ghost
Mention of Brian Elliott as a reserve getting to the world Final reminds me of Fred Brand who also attained this feat whilst at Norwich. He went on to score 7 on Final night at Wembley Fred Brand was also named as the News of the World's "Knight of the Road" when he assisted a stranded motorist during a journey home from a Stars meeting. Did any other riders get this award or is Fred "unique" Edited June 16, 2007 by star ghost
Ron Butler
Would any rider want a mention in that scandal sheet unless it was in the sports section. Possibly Split Waterman and Bruce Semmens did many years ago.

norbold
news of the world sponsored the league from 1929 well into the late (if not all)30's,and the major cup. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The News of the World certainly sponsored the Southern League in the early days but the major cup was the Daily Mail National Trophy...which should give some clue as to who it was sponsored by!
