frigbo
Can anyone help me out please. I'm working on a Website, which hopefully will include all riders who've appeared in British Speedway since 1965 (gulp!!). Can any of you Crusaders give me some 'gen on a P.Furniss who rode for you at Middlesbro on 3rd July 1969, as he doesn't appear on the Crusaders website anywhere?? sidecar121
I contacted the web site "stats man" for you and he came back with the following reply... Sorry I can't shed any light on this one. My stats came from "The Complete History of the British League" by Peter Oakes and there is no mention of P Furniss in the Canterbury averages for 1969. I thought that maybe he could have been a guest but I cannot see a P Furniss with an average in 1969 for any First or Second Division team. frigbo
Many thanks for your help. I'll have to see if the Speedway Star Track Review for that year shed's some light. I'll let you know if i find anything so you can update your site if necessary.
KevH
My guess is that he was a Middlesbrough junior who "guested" for Canterbury owing to non-arrival/injury of one of the Crusaders.
jackofdiamonds
Think you may have the surname spelling wrong. I do recall a Middlesbro junior riding then, but think it my be Furness, and Paul comes to mind
Peter
I had a look at Middlesbrough's Cleveland Park Life website and in the 'Where are they now?' section, they list a rider called Paul Furniss. It says: PAUL FURNISS - Appeared in junior scurries at Cleveland Park in 1969 and 1970. His brother Nigel ran the administrative side of the speedway. Lives in Thornaby. KevH
Gonna be quite a while Kev, i'm only up to August '69 in collating the info You're doing well mate, and like I said all the best. Have you considered setting up the site now and uploading each year when you've completed it? Just a thought (and I'm so impatient) ;-)
