Lanzilla
Just to reassure the humourless among my fellow posters-and thankfully there are only a few-I am only having a giggle at the amount of times the Danes say 'You Know' during an interview. The fact that any non English speaking Countries can grasp our language as well as they do is amazing, although i suppose it is in their interest to learn our language and not quite so important for us to learn theirs. I wonder when they are learning English if - 'You Know'- is drummed into them, or is it something that creeps in along the way??? It's amazing on this forum that when you try to have a harmless bit of fun that one or two get stroppy Knickers about it. Perhaps Stevehone - Your signature should read..........The thing i miss most is my sense of humour!!

Gemini
I thought it was funny too English Rose. Whoever taught them to say "You know" in every sentence wants shooting. So does the person who told Hans Andersen "F**k" was an every day English word to use.

Star Lady
I have nothing but admiration for anyone that can learn a language other than their native tongue, after 5 years my French teacher had a nervous breakdown (truthfully tho I don't think I was the sole cause ) but I found ERs post extremely amusing. Just a shame she couldn't have signified the speed of their speech as well
Lanzilla
and not quite so important for us to learn theirs. Why not? The original post was a 'bit funny' but the explanation and logic behind it was a off the mark. When your learning another language you tend to pick up phrases that you often repeat a lot as you cannot remember the words to say what you actually want to say, you know? So what was Peter Beardsley's excuse then DD??? He's English and every time he was interviewed, or a panelist on tv he said -'To be fair'- about a zillion times. And I don't know if anyone's ever heard Wayne Carter interviewed?! He uses the 'you know' thing even more than the Danes did last night!!! Mind you, coming from Halifax, English probably isn't his first language either!!!
Hanne
English Rose: No need to explain the humor behind your post ~ I'm danish and i found it really funny Most of the danish riders say 'You know' a lot... It must be something that creeps up on them when they live in Britain ...dont know...but it's hilarious to listen to...especially Hans does it a lot... Jenn
Leigh Adams is another with limited vocab in his interviews.....How many times does he say "lets see what happens" in EVERY interview he does! One of his ones tonight he said it twice that i noticed! The Danes are the best in interviews!!! Not dissing them(i'd love to be able to speak danish) but the grammer and word order is sometimes hilarious! "You know" is a favourite of alot of riders..............Hans Andersen has to be the best for over using it though.........Closely followed by Nicki Pedersen! Jive
Whoever taught them to say "I know" in every sentence wants shooting. Perhaps they had Andy sorry Andrew Cole (Footballer so they say ) to teach them
-Andrew-
Ye, when Nicki P was being interviewed after Denmark won on Sunday "you know" was said in every sentance! Still, full marks to him for giving an interview. Has anyone noticed that Crumpy always goes "eeeeeerm"and "ummmm".
Peter
Has anyone noticed that Crumpy always goes "eeeeeerm"and "ummmm". Talking of Crumpy, there was a press release from Benfield Sports International after the Aussies went through to the final. Part of it was a quote from Jason which was: "But everyone played their part tonight. Jason Lyons was terrific, Ryan pulled out a big one when we needed it and Todd battled through." Ryan pulled out a big one?
KevH
Didn't he give a mention to Leigh - surely a 15 point maximum deserved some sort of recognition :?:
Peter
Didn't he give a mention to Leigh - surely a 15 point maximum deserved some sort of recognition :?: Jason said: "Everyone played their part". Here's the press release in full: Press Release from: Benfield Sports International. FIM SPEEDWAY WORLD CUP (SWC) EVENT 2, 4TH AUGUST, OUTRUP, DENMARK AUSTRALIA BATTLE TO FINAL AUSTRALIA are through to the final of the Speedway World Cup ... but only just. The defending champions were given a run for their money by Great Britain in Outrup tonight and only a last heat victory for the unbeaten Jason Crump clinched their victory and qualification for Vojens. Great Britain, inspired by Lee Richardson, whose Heat 20 ride as a Joker earned six points and brought his side to within one of Australia. Richardson then won his next ride and a further win for David Norris put the Brits one ahead. But the gallant Aussies knew that their big two of Crump and Leigh Adams, also unbeaten, were out in the final two races. And what trump cards they proved to be. Aussie skipper Leigh Adams was quick to praise Britain, saying: 'They pushed us all the way. They were really pumped up tonight and that Joker ride, plus a broken chain for Todd Wiltshire, really put us under pressure.' Team manager Neil Street said he always believed his team would go through at the first attempt, even when they lost the lead with just a few races left. It was a pressure situation for Crump but one in which he thrives. 'I knew how important it was,' said Crump. 'We have all planned to go back to England for a few days and that would have been wrecked had we had to come back on Thursdsay for the race-off. I would have had four angry guys after me. 'But everyone played their part tonight. Jason Lyons was terrific, Ryan pulled out a big one when we needed it and Todd battled through. We have a great team spirit and now we can relax for a couple of days before coming back to Denmark and racing the final.' Adams added: 'It was hard tonight because there was really only two teams in it. That meant that even if you won a race, you only gained a one point advantage. It probably would have been different had the USA been here. But we are through to the Final and we will be going for our third straight Speedway World Cup win.' BTL
Funny, I heard Nikki say "For Sure" as well - a well known phrase said by Dutch footballers (Artur Newman, Fernando Rickson Ronald de Boer Michael Mols to name but a few)
