ELRC - Change of venue

Recommended Posts

ok lets get this straight...it has nothing to do with club v club or jealousy or petty squables - THIS IS THE CREDIBILITY OF THE SPORT we're talking about!if the football  world cup was advertised as being in germany (and tickets sold accordingly) but then FIFA decided to switch it to brazil what do you think would be said/written by the fans?could you ever see it happening in any another sport?

Its hardly comparable to a change of country, super7 events are big, but the World Cup would be on a level with GP's, its not the same. Besides of which, it isnt as far to change as before. And, as said, it happens.

Canadian Star, Budgie, I agree with you, thank you for putting those points forward. :approve:

i re-iterate,you will not here anything official from the BSPA cos they have cocked up (again).they knew in january (as i did) that sheffield could not (and will not) have an air fence for this,or any, event.by this time the contract had been signed by sheffield to hold the event.as there are probably legal implications the sheffield promotion are banned from making any statement.

i also re-iterate that the only concerns i(and sheffield fans) have is for the credibilty of OUR sport (what's left of it).

Then can i suggest you change the record or give it a rest B)  :P

Smilies or not ........... I really would like to meet you.

So it's been changed from Sheffield and one fan in particular is having a little moan regarding the fact that Crump loves it at Sheffield amongst others, yet in another posting then goes onto say that the Sheffield fans were looking forward to this meeting and it's been taken away from them, so are you arguing for the riders sakes or for your own

On the other hand having the meeting at Kings Lynn will hopefully mean there will be more competition and not a foregone conclusion on who the winner will be (does that make sense  )

You could always try asking Kev to smuggle you over in his rucksack next month.Trouble is i reckon you'd be stranded as he will need the space for Vodka once he gets to Poland :D

But if they make all air fences next year for everyone, are sheffield going to pack it in or run another day?

Actually you've kind of ruined your own arguement there. I presume you mean the Lindgren crash (?) - If there hadn't have been an airfence and Fred had hit a chaiin fence, or worse a board fence, at that speed he may well be joining the list of serious injuries we've had this season! Yes he went through the fence but it acted like a huge cushion and made for a fairly soft landing!

I think the Sheffield fans need to get medical attention for the huge planks they appear to have on their shoulders over this issue! ;):P

Perhaps someone could explain WHY Sheffield can't have the airfence. I read on here that it's because they can't get the airfence up on a Thursday night or something. Is this a time thing? I only ask becasue the Wolverhampton Airfence can't be put up until after the dogs have finished at 6pm! Yet it's always up and ready for the start time at 7.30!

once and for all its not just the time constraints its the fact that once the fence has been erected it HAS TO BE INSPECTED by someone from sheffield council, do you think this can be done between between the time the fence had been erected (and it would take a lot longer at sheffield than it would at wolves) and the start time of the meeting, and what would happen if the inspector was late or wanted alterations??? no meeting.

so this is not a problem to do with an air fence, we regularly have EL riders practising at sheffield with no air fence, and they are not alone on the track EG richard hall on thursday, but other reasons which obviosly no one from the BSPA will talk about.

what other day do you suggest, cant run mondays, thats one of the reasons the CL team was pulled, only other free day sundays, which would make a massive difference to sheffield supporters.

dont think there will ever be air fences at PL and CL level, unless sky televise more meetings, no need for the stadiums to look alike or for increased advertising revenue from the advertising on the fence

the owlerton fence is inspected by a H&S officer from sheffield council before EVERY home meeting.this inspection takes ONE AND A HALF HOURS and details EVERY nut and bolt!this is what being a few hundred yards from where the hillsborough disaster took place does for you.however, there can never be any question of the fence not being safe!so,to put up an air fence (an hour or so maybe?) and then have the inspection is unworkable when the dogs don't finish till 4(ish).there will NEVER be an air fence at owlerton, there may be no speedway...who knows?IF the sheffield promotion had been asked by the BSPA then THIS is the answer they would have got...THEY DIDN'T ASK and the contract was signed.

ps/ i am now risking being banned by the sheff promotion for saying too much!(oh and the BSPA have already given me a warning about slander....to which i replied- it's only slander if it aint true!).
