Australian Sidecar Title

Recommended Posts

I am Stuck In Adelaide but results will be Texted to me and I will put them on here .

Press release;

The popularity of the Pioneer Park venue has been recognised by Motorcycle Australia in allowing an expanded qualifying series for the 2007 Australian Sidecar Championships. A Total of 36 outfits had nominated for the Championship to be run over Easter Saturday and Sunday at Pioneer Park. Normally there would be a 16 bike plus 2 reserves competing on the Qualifying night for the spots available to unseeded riders in the final. This year in what can be claimed to be the Biggest Speedway Sidecar meeting in the World, Pioneer Park promoters Richard and Michelle Ryan have negotiated with MA that their be 2 x 13 bike formats plus 2 reserves for each format.

This means no riders will miss out on being a part of the titles. There will be 10 Finals spots and 2 reserves spots up for grabs with the top five from each draw qualifying and the 2 sixth places becoming the reserves for the main meeting.

There will be 6 seeded riders Darren Treloar the Current Australian Champion and New South Wales Champion, Gary Moon current Queensland Champion, Byren Gates the highest home placegetter at the Victorian Titles, Mick Headland the highest placed home placegetter at the South Australian Titles, Scott Christopher the Highest Qualified Australian at the World Titles, and Grant Bond of New South Wales who ran second to Darren Treloar.

There will be a total of $28,000 in prizemoney up for grabs which will make it by far the biggest prizemoney event for Sidecars also in Australia. With all nominated bikes now getting a chance at qualifying for the final the way is made open for some of the lesser lights to have a shot at the Title. In all 11 Sidecars from throughout Queensland have nominated for the event which will give some the opportunity to measure their skills and expertise against some much travelled and highly experienced teams.

Richard Ryan said "We would like to thank Motorcycle Australia for allowing us to promote and encourage the Sidecar fraternity with this expanded format of qualifying" "This will be the biggest Sidecar meeting staged here in Australia and in the World and Pioneer Park is happy to be the venue" "We really hope that the Speedway fans from throughout the North support the event as they should be in for some top shelf racing"

Practise for the event will be held on Thursday the 6th of April, Qualifying night will be Saturday 8th of April with the final on Sunday night 9th of April. There will be a street parade through the main street of Ayr on Saturday morning prior to the Qualifying meeting that night.

Do I take it that the winner of Pool 1 was Ronnie Parker alias "The Prince of Port Adelaide?" If it was, will hopefully help him celebrate later in the year by allowing him to buy me a Bundy or three at the legendary Blue Room!:wink:

Treloar Triumphs Title 007

2007 Rising Sun Honda

Australian Speedway Sidecar Championship

Night Two

Darrin Treloar/Justin Plaisted continue their reign as Australian Speedway Sidecar Champions, defending their 2006 title in a deja’ vu performance, the final with riders in starting order were: Treloar, Moon, Parker and Christopher, required a restart after a first lap incident halfway down the back straight where all 4 riders attempted to approach the entrance to turn 3 four abreast, resulting in Ronny Parker being spat out the back loosing his passenger (Shane Rudloff) and Justin Plaisted coming adrift from Darrin but retaining a vice like grip on the back as if riding a bucking bull at a rodeo. The red light came on and there was a hush until the announcement was made, all four back in.

Take Two

All four charged into turns one and two with Treloar a slight leader with Moon up high, Christopher looking on the low line and Parker having half a loose and ending all his chances of winning. Treloar edged ever so slightly away as Moon and Christopher fought hard over second place and Parker trying vainly to make up the lost ground. Moon broke clear from Christopher with just over a lap to go and set sail for Treloar, making up a fair bit of ground in the closing stages, with Parker closing up to Christopher on the final corner, however Treloar and Plaisted proved worthy winners, being highest point scorers from the heats, Moon and Duane Dennis a hard charging second, with the Christopher/Koppe combination taking the final podium position.

The Start of the night, was marred by what appeared to be a over watered track, which resulted in Mick Headland while leading on the first lap of the first heat flipping his outfit in turn 4, you might say it’s bad luck being the first heat out, but at a National title the track should be ready to go from the start, as it had been at the previous two meetings held at Pioneer Park. Maybe the referee should have ordered a track grade after Headlands flip, instead of waiting until the interval after three rounds of heats. With the heavy track early, racing was pretty pedestrian, making it hard to come from behind, tho Treloar came from the rear in his first heat with a questionable pass on the inside of Christopher, as was a incident in the previous heat with Aldridge and Bottrell. Once the track was graded the racing became sensational, with riders being able to use the entire track in the final 2 rounds of heats.

Headland would have to be considered unlucky with eight points, following his first heat demise while leading.

Disappointment of the night would have to be the performance of Steve Taylor, following the hoo ha raised from down south when named as a reserve for the 2006 Nth Qld Masters, his form justified the selectors choice.

Surprise of the weekend was the form of 55-year-old Ronny Parker, great to see an old stager mixing it with the countries best

Professional Presentation by most of the 36 teams has to be commended and should make for great TV exposure when aired.

You know me mate, try anything once ( or twice,or three times etc etc)'

You might remember the name here being an old degenerate - ooops - sidecar man yourself!:

_DRIVER CHEATS DEATH AGAIN_

A Territory Quadriplegic has defied the odds again - surviving after his Modified Supercharged SS Ute slammed into the safety barrier at 90kmh.

This happened during a Supercheap Autos PowerCruise racing event in Darwin on the weekend.

Phil Kerr broke both Kneecaps, his left leg and his thumb but the courageous racer got out of the ute as if nothing had happened.

He was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where doctors discovered the extent of his injuries.

"It all happened so fast - the Ute lost traction and we went sideways straight into the fence.

My foot was caught on the Pedals and my hand hit the Hand controls so hard it knocked the Roman Numerals off me watch"

" it gave me a bit of a fright but I got out of the car and into me wheelchair and felt fine. After a while I started to have a funny sensation and because I can't feel pain I knew there was something wrong"

Darwin's reigning Sidecar Champion he became a quadriplegic in a Sidecar Accident a the opening night of Northline Speedway about 25 years ago.

He clipped another outfit (ridden by Lyndon Schlein, Rory's Dad) and fell then was run over by another outfit, breaking his neck.

He survived two weeks in Intensive Care winning the fight for life but losing all movement in his limbs, and contracting Hep.C through a blood transfusion while there.

He's never given up though and with his wife and former Swinger Janice runs the Phil Kerr Service Centre in Central Darwin (and his ute pulls mid 12's for the quarter mile)

http://www.vet.nt.gov.au/media/print/emplo...at-us-now-1.pdf is a good photo of Jan & him, he's a top bloke.

Sent this off to Speedway Racing News, hopefully they'll do something and give Phil a lift, he's a top bloke.

Enjoyed the Chequered Flag show on the Gillman Round last night, only trouble was they kept going past the Crowd too quick before I could say "There's Us!"

Take care Rod,

Regards, BFD.

Interesting stuff Dave I remmber the Name but we got into Darwin 1983-4 season

Lyndon Schlein was running the show but not riding Phil Mckay was the top dog in sidecars.

I recall a Baxter in a wheel chair racing a F500?

I wish the fellow well and hope his recovery is swift so he can continue his

Need For Speed .

Darwin:

We drove up there in a battered old HQ wagon through flood and famine (no money) it took 6 weeks !

Arrived a week before the season started at the first practice the track had been washed out due to the late rains the cars went out but the local bikes did not.

Myself being young and silly (oppossed to being old and silly now) thought we havent driven 2,000km to sit in the pits took our outfit out on to the track by now the pole line was dry but the high line was slush.

We completed the 4 pracitce laps no problems then after the flag drifted high to slow down and went straight on into the wall!

I abondoned ship before the bike hit the wall and wathced it end for end along the concrete ah well it gave us somthing to do untill the first meeting, one of many tall tales to come out of the Darwin trip it was only for 6 weeks ended up being 6 years then I had to leave in a hurry but thats another story!

Have you found yourself a job yet?

Cheers Rod

Fun & Games at Northline! Tricky running Sidecars on Slush! You'd recall the night Phil McKay broke his leg and went out for the season? Racing Accident wasn't it? How's Darren Treloar, how good is he? Still running me 71 HQ Ute - they don't make 'em like that any more!

Still having fun with me Sleep Apnoea, Rod, Doctors reckon I've got a really weird strain of it so I'm a Guinea Piglet! They're finding out more about it as we go along. Makes it tricky getting work as I'm out the Hospital a coupla times a week - but I'm getting Mighty Bored. Been offered a job running a Ship's Chandlers which could be a Laff - Yachties!! Not to mention the odd Nubile Deckhand or two!

See ya in the Soup!

How are you Spider. I remember you swinging for me for a couple of meetings but I don't ever recall having a broken leg (speedway or otherwise). You must have me mixed up with someone else. The only broken bones I've had from speedway was a broken shoulder blade in the last meeting of the 90/91 season.

Sorry to hear about Phil Kerr. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. Please pass on my regards if you are speaking to him Dave.

Regards Phil

Popped in and said hello to Jan this morning; she's as sunny as ever and thanks everyone for their concern and best wishes. Phil has had to go back into Hospital, I think they're gonna tie him down this time! He's spewin' 'cos he's broken the Toy! I'm sure he'll be back on however many wheels he wants as soon as.

The SS looks a bit second-hand, nothing a new front end won't fix, but I believe Phil knows a coupla good Mechanics! I'll PM you his email if ya like, you take care too, none of us are getting any younger. I might be getting Fatter but! Bad case of Medieval Margarine - Middle-Age Spread!
