Prince Of Wales Trophy

A Howe win, to be sure, but he must've been concerned at the way Burza was going in his first three outings.

Burza was a bit of an enigma, well behind Jason Doyle in the first heat when Doyle developed engine trouble, then he beat Howe and then Cunningham, went through the tapes and started off 15 metres but couldn't get past Morris or Simmons and then made a hash of the start against Sam Hurst and Tony Atkin and shut off after being squeezed on the third bend trailing in third for his 10 points. Best riders on show were Howe, Burza, Cunningham and Doyle but he made a mess of his last race and handed the final spot to Simmons. Nick apart, the Newport contingent were poor.

I thought I was going to be homeless there for a while the way Burza was riding, very impressed. David Howe was the consistent rider and Nick Simmons was the suprise package as has been said already.

Concerns over Phil Morris and his crash, he seemed to be holding his wrist and wasn't in the bar after the meeting. I did hear say he might of broken his scaphoid, I hope thats not right. Fingers crossed.

A very dire crowd, as had been expected. But the season ticket holders were there in full attendance (well done lads!)

Only one pass in the meeting which was run a lot of the time in windy rainy conditions. So well done to the riders for continuing to go on.

Wasnt too bad a meeting.

Cunningham was cracking IMO... some of the passes he made were great and I would be happy to see him in a Newport jacket after 12 matches instead of one of the reserves... was also the last person to leave the bar, barring us lot of course

Doyle wasn't as good as people think he will be this year... 5 point EL average... yeah right, be lucky to average 4.

Howe was his usual great self... tell you what if he doesnt have a good year in 07 then I wouldnt be surprised to see him Newport number one in '08.

Burza... had three wins, his first gifted by a Doyle EF... rode well though.

Simmons... fair play he rode very well and making the final was a good effort. Hope he rides like that for the Wasps!

Atkin... well he was awful really. Beaten by Sam Hurst. Had a terrible meeting, hope he picks things up next week!

Schramm... started poor but switched bikes and got 6 from 3. Rode well at the end and will be a good signing for this season.

Wizzer... didn't look too quick and should of done a bit better. Fell in his last ride and reports suggest a wrist/thumb injury... lets hope its not bad.

Hurst... beat Atkin and shut Burza out in one race... apart from that didn't really do much.

Warwick... had a poor afternoon and was beaten well easily by Simmons... didnt impress at all!

Hawkins... same can be said for him. Didn't look good really.. think he had one good ride.

Bargh... was awful until he pulled out with engine trouble.

So wasn't too bad a meeting, with rumours going round. Cunningham rumoured to be in after 12 matches for one of the reserves

He did ride well, but the line up wasn't that great to be honest, not a lot to beat at the end of the day.  He would strengthen the team and might be a good move to bring him in after 12 if averages allow. (Can't believe I'm saying that)
Howe was his usual great self... tell you what if he doesnt have a good year in 07 then I wouldnt be surprised to see him Newport number one in '08.
Good idea Pinny, but I wonder what he would expect as a Premier League number one?  He won't come cheap.  It's a nice thought, but the way the crowd was today it makes you wonder what will happen next year
Atkin... well he was awful really. Beaten by Sam Hurst. Had a terrible meeting, hope he picks things up next week!
Tony did say that he was trying different set ups all the time throughout the meeting and he said that he wasn't race fit, he was very honest actually.
Hurst... beat Atkin and shut Burza out in one race... apart from that didn't really do much.
I thought Sam rode very well on his new Bjarne Pedersen bike  :) , best he's ridden in ages.

What rumours! Lol.

No it's not.

Teams will get CMAs after 3 home and 3 away that will determine R/R, guests and riding order but for team building riders will keep there original GSA. Only after 12 meetings will rider get new GSA's for team building, R/R, guests and riding order.

So basically the original tema is in place for the Premier Trophy. Also, one fo the reserve CANNOT be dropped as you have to keep two graded (but they're not actually given a name) reserves in your team all year. So only one of the top 5 can go. Glenn could replaced anyone of the top 5 now.

What's the point of attending if you can't see past your Blinkers?

Sounds like the Hardy Few who turned up were treated to a good show; don't forget to rub it in to all & sundry who didn't turn up/couldn't be bothered/etc. Alas my Bus didn't arrive - non-existent public transport in the NT on a Sunday!!

Well actually had you been there today you would have seen how well he did -  If SCB had been there today he would have been able to have given a great description as to how he rode and a truthful one at that.      Respect .......

Firstly, what the hell do I have to do with it? I've not commented.

Secondly, do you know what an enigma is? No, it's not just a German encryptian machine or a film about that machine. The 3 good heat results and the two more dubious one are indicative of him being an enigma and you don't need to be there to see that.

Incidently, Silver Bee and myself being fans of Coventry will no doubt at some point be supporting Mr Burza, as he's a Coventry rider for 2007. So either I critize all my teams (not just Newport) and am unbiased or calling someone an enigma is not a critisism. Wehn you find out what an enigma is, you decide.

BTW, maybe I was not there because you told me not to bother? Or maybe I was not there because I was giving a guy who has entertained me all my life (22 years) as a speedway rider, rather than going to give a guy who has provided me with somewhere to be entertained for 10 years (tho in you case it's about 2 years I believe, so you'd not apreciate the likes of Sam Ermolenko and just how truely great he has been and what he means to long time speedway fans)

Firstly, can you read?

Secondly, coming last after starting 15m back is nothing to do with being an enigma.

Thirdly, coming third after making a mess of the second bend and with no chance, or need, of catching the second place rider is nothing to do with being an enigma.

Why on earth would anyone in their right mind be at Newport rather than at Sam's meeting?!:rolleyes:

Hes WAY to good for the PL im afraid.

Can see him adding 2 points on his starting average this year with comfort. ;)

Great win David.
