What? Getting them to host the pairs at Newport because they can't put together a good enough team?

Loving the banter. It's an enviable position to those of us currently unable to get behind our team. Keep up the agro; makes great reading.

Should be a great night at Somerset.

everyone had to lower their averages to fit in with what Newport wanted this year ... do you really think they'll get a meeting like this?

just my opinion of course

Would you care to expand on what "Newport wanted this year" please.

As a loyal Newport fan I would love to hear this.

can anyone give line ups for definate for next friday?

I am concerned that Glasgow are excluded from pairs as i bought 3 tickets expecting there to be a Glasgow pair to cheer on - its a long way to go and not be able to support your team - are BSPA issuing a press release?

Glasgow    [ Parker / Stancl ]

George Stancl won't be Shane Parker's partner in this now will he, as he's left Glasgow and Craig Watson has taken his place?

EDIT:  seanisnumber1 has beaten me to it! Ah well. Would Edinburgh come back in then, as they were the wildcard before?

Actually I think Edinburgh would have qualified as of right had Theo Pijper and Ronnie Correy's averages been allowed to count for qualification.

However at the cut-off date for qualification, Pijper had not ridden for the Monarchs so Newcastle protested, the committee agreed, Edinburgh were thrown out and Newcastle, the next highest average team were given their place.

The same seems to apply to Glasgow. Craig Watson had not ridden for the Tigers at the cut-off date so, by the same logic, should not be allowed to ride. I guess if Shane Parker and Trent Leverington's combined average is good enough they could ride as a pair.

Only just em.....well Edinburgh got kicked out again as they could not really put Pijper in so thats really the same situation as Wato...who knows what the BSPA and the Chipmunks will come up with!!

the situation between Glasgow and Edinbugh is NOT the same.

Glasgow qualified as of right at the cut off date, Edinburgh were given the wild card only have it to be taken back off them a few hours later.

More interesting is comparing the rulings they were aplying had the fours gone ahead on the initial date. Glasgow qualified on averages which included David McAllans but then they said although his average was used for qualification criteria David could NOT ride as due to injury he had not ridden enough meetings. At the same time Workington were going to be allowed to use Carl Stonehewer even though he also hadn't ridden the required number of meetings because he replaced the rider who's average was used to calculate Workington's qualification. Now if they are following the logic in that, Glasgow will be in the pairs and it will be Parker and Watson.

However, speedway and logic don't really go hand in hand!

From the paying fans point of view it would be better if that happened rather than Shane and trent, no disrespect to Trent intended and lets face it the result wont be affected by whichever Tigers pairing take to the track!

although the home track advantage situation has not been negated on this occasion i think it makes sense to hold it at this venue because of its proximity to cardiff and because of the financial benefits to speedway.good thinking on this occasion mr.chapman.

Right just an idea so please don't shoot me down too much, but to combat home track advantage for the Pairs, did they never think of holding it at Newport?

Newport aren't in it and they are used to a bumper crowd there the night before the GP!

I've never been there so i wouldn't know why they chose Zorroset

Great idea, should of had the Pairs at Newport.  For anyone who hasn't been this season the track is much improved.  At last the 3rd and 4th bends seem to have been sorted out and the later start time means that the dust stays down more.

We've held the Pairs at Newport previously, would be great to see it back there again.

A couple of points in relation to the above:-

1. Who said that the PL Pairs MUST be held the Friday before the GP?

2. IF they were definite about wanting the PL pairs the night before the GP then they should have considered Coventry (a Friday track with plenty facilities) or Swindon (if they could have a Friday night meeting). Both are easily as accessible if not more so than Somerset on a Friday night.

3. OK so they decide that they want a Super7 pairs event at Somerset the night before the GP - why not the EL pairs? That way it remains neutral and will possibly attract an even bigger crowd.

4. Some are asking why its not being held at Newport as they aren't in it. This may *sound* a great idea but at the time the venues were decided no one knew what teams would qualify. Lets face it with a week to go we STILL don't know for definite which teams will be there!

Just a few more of my ramblings on the matter! Seems logical to me, please put me right
