I was about to say the same thing  Seems somewhat odd to say the least. If Edinburgh weren't allowed in for that reason, then how come Glasgow are? Guess that's how the cookie crumbles!

I would find this fair if it applied to every team for each event of this sort. Even though it paved the way for Sheffield to enter the 4TT, the fact Redcar were not allowed to compete due to injury (yeah injury, which obviously were NOT their fault) but teams who chop and change are allowed in, makes this whole thing seems like a joke.

Edit - forgot about the Edinburgh situation, which is just the same  Farcial.

Because Glasgow are the people's champions while Edinburgh are the spawn of Satan . I thought everyone knew that .

Because the Glasgow pair will offer far more entertainement and thus generate more gate money than the crass Edinburgh pair.

I'm not saying that means the decision is fair just the way I see it.

The crowd numbers were the reason Birmingham were seeded into the 4TT aswell, if I remember rightly?

Oh stop your bloody moaning, you get to see Craig Watson, a Premier League legend ride in a prestigious meeting, something that may never have happened after his two horrific injuries.

Come to think about it, after all the injuries this season, those going to this event should crave watching the stars of the Premier League race each other, speedway is too unpredictable to complain about the odd technicality, yes the BSPA stink but I for one expect that now and would much rather watch the best possible line up.

Ignore the farcical nature of British Speedway, have a drink and enjoy watching quality racing for a night!

Rant over,

JT. :)

Can actually see your point :P Parker is pretty mint and Watson will no doubt put in a good performance. Don't think I was knocking Glasgow for staying in the line up or anything  Was only curious as to why they could stay in and Edinburgh couldn't. Good luck to them I say. I won't be at this pairs meeting in any case, so won't get to see anything

Exactly!! Lets also get as many page 3 girls as possible to enter a few of their own teams too! It will attract loads of people and make much more money!! Who cares if it doesn't quite make sense, as long as lots of money is made ;)

This was a reply on the same question yesterday given by Glasgow's michael max.

Quote:

Glasgow actually qualified as one of the top pairs - Edinburgh were only being given the wild card if Pijper was to be allowed to race. And the programme deadline was the same day that we signed Watson, the programme will feature Parker and Watson.

I imagine this event is slightly different from others as there is so much organisation for supporters, ie hotels for Cardiff and flights etc - comapred to a one-off event such as Peterborough for the 4's.

Its a disgrace. as per usual, we at redcar have ended up being s**t on with the 4's situation. I, for one will NOT be attending ANY of the so called "super" 7 meetings until these situations are resolved. Its ridiculous. But yet again, we just have to get on with it as usual.

Sod the rules :D

:D

Where will the Glasgow fans be standing at the pairs? Just so I can come and stand with them and support the great man and that other ok Aussies Shane Parker.

C'mon the Tigers :D

It's just in keeping with the Workington decision, it's just a weird decision regarding Redcar and the 4TT anyway (though look on the bright side, you didnt have to go to Peterborough for a rain off)

Fair enough the BSPA have made the decision to allow Craig Watson to ride for Glasgow. But once again the credibility of the sport with it's on-the-hoof policy making leaves it looking like a sick joke.

I've no gripe with Glasgow being there, just with Craig Watson being allowed to participate no matter how much affection he has attracted among some of the posters on this thread. It's a matter of principle particularly when a team like Redcar, with Gary Havelock and James Grieves waiting in the wings, has been denied. I couldn't care less about Edinburgh not being there since they would have been no more than makeweights.

But now we have the situation that, should by any chance Glasgow's match against Birmingham be a victim to the weather tomorrow, Craig Watson could set a precedent by being the first rider to represent a club in the final who has never actually ridden for it.

I wonder how the powers that be will justify that.

Yes but the pairs are only a week away fans may have made travel arrangements etc already, anyway so what if watto doesn't have a PL ave this year he has been proved to be one of the top riders in this division for years, and has been proved better than pjiper, does that not count for anything?

It counts for the fact that Berwick should sign Sean Wilson and Peter Carr this week and get in , why ? well they were quite good a few years ago. .

This season of speedway is farce after another, you wonder why people don't attend the sport !. :o

So what happens now that Watson hasn't ridden a competitive meeting for the Tigers before the pairs?  Is he still eligible?

Eligible?? What's that got to do with it? You surely don't think a rider has to be eligible to take part.

No, it's not eligibility that counts - it's what's best to increase the crowd. Perhaps the wild card should have gone to Nicky Pederson and Bjarne Pederson. OK they haven't ridden for a PL team this year but, a few years ago, didn't they ride for Newcastle? And look at the effect it would have on the attendance!

Incidentally, this is not a dig at Glasgow. I'm sure they're delighted with the outcome and, to be fair, they don't make the decisions. (Do they? )

Of course it's all to do with money . Craig Watson will be a big draw down that end of the country .

Wonder what would have happened if Glasgow had signed some unknown Pole or Dane to replace George Stancl

But of course we are delighted Craig can take his place in the Pairs - C'MON THE STRIPES .
