TFI THURSDAY
As a premier league supporter i cant join the 'he should have won ,he shouldn't have won, arguements'as most of those are because you thought your own teams rider was better, but just wanted to say what a great night it was for British speedway!!!! The young guns coming through (you know who you are) are looking really promising and i think we will be a strong british team in the next few years. Well done to Bomber on winning the meeting and being No.1 brit, you are a pleasure to watch David rode well(home track or not)and as his average suggests this season, he is the right man for the job. Scott not much to say,i'm seeing quite a changed man lately!!!!!!!! Eddie great little rider and will play a massive part in team GB in the future i am sure. Well done to all the riders you all played your part and to those who have woke up this morning disappointed just remember you dont get anywhere in life by giving up.So get stuck straight back in with more determination and lets show the rest of the world just what us brits are made of!!!!!!!!!!! Silver Bee
Fair play to Howe, but I can't help but think giving him a wildcard is a bit retrogressive? I think the experience would be far more useful for a youngster like Kennett. But nonetheless, well done David, you have been on top form this season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Why?  Why does Kennett deserve it more then Howe?  They've both had the Cardiff experience before and Howe isn't exactly ancient - he has a lot of years left in him yet.  Yes it was at his home track, but;  8.42 ~ David Howe (Wolverhampton…GB…25) after 86 rides 7.79 ~ Edward Kennett (Poole…GB…20) after 77 rides  Well done David - you deserved this one - just don't embarrass yourself now
Paulco
I'll try again as the forum crashed when i was posting earlier . First i've watched Sky's coverage for a while ( apart from the GP's ) as the EL had become boring . But i must say that i enjoyed this meeting . Chris Harris has now become the undoubted British number one - of that there can be no arguement now . David Howe is having a similar sort of season that David Norris did 2 or 3 years ago - hope he can keep it up as last night he got better and better as the meeting progressed . Scott Nicholls - " i'm testing new engines " aye right . Treating the meeting with distain or making excuses - you choose . He's not the top dog anymore so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to this fact . Eddie Kennett - came of age as the next big hope last night . If he can continue his progress onto the bigger grippier circuits then he might yet mount a challenge to get into next years GP series . Of the rest Danny King and Olly Allan had good meetings , although that could have been more to do with the lack of strength in depth of the field . Dont know if Belle Vue's poor season is having an effect on Simon Stead as he doesn't look the rider of this time last year when he was given the Cardiff wildcard . Lee Richardson - i just dont know where his career is going now . Of the rest Havvy , Screeny and Chris Louis have sadly had their day at the top level , but Bridger's time will surely come with time and experience . All in all a good meeting with a worthy winner and absolutely gorgeous start-girls .
ruckerroo
I used to think oliver allen was a petulant, spoilt child of a speedway rider,he aint no more, well done olly.. Â Pretty good meeting. Â Think its time the havvys, louis and screens swallowed these finals and let the young tryers have more of a go tbh. Â Its amazing the progress kennets made since going to a proper club, poole have to take a deal of credit for making him grow up and improve immensely as a rider, his time will come.. Sir Jasper
No, Nicholls is testing new engines, he has been struggling on them all season (he has switched to gm's) he seems to be getting better on them now but like Crump seems to have trouble finding the power on the big stage. Â I find it ridicolous that people are saying he was miserable, of course he was! he only has one engine that is suitable for small tracks hence him trying to get this one right (he does have a couple of small track gp's coming up you know and will no doubt be feeling the pressure.) Â I have wondered if he would better sending the engines to Axeman as they are clearly working for Bomber. Â Big congrats to Bomber it really is a pleasure to watch him ride although his gating was too good last night lol. Â Olly Allen is not far from making a step up now, it is however a hard step to take I just hope he can. Â Danny King rode really well. Â Richardson was awful! there is no way he should be pottering around like he is! Stead too was awful and he is really struggling with having the pressure of riding number 1, there must be some doubts creeping into him now. Fourentee
Warmest congratulations to Chris Harris, a worthy British champion. I'm no fan of the last chance/grand final scenario, being a 20-heats traditionalist, so I was pleased (with the greatest of respect to Danny King and Olly Allen) that Scott Nicholls and Edward Kennett, having scored four points more in the main meeting, were the two that prevailed and made the shootout. Equally it was the two riders who scored 14 who occupied the top steps on the rostrum so that too was pleasing. For my tuppence I also thought the four finalists finished in the order that reflected their performances on the night. Harris was absolutely splendid, Howe only marginally less so, Nicholls was certainly combative (but he's a four time champion defending his crown, do you want to see him just trundle round because he's already in the GP series?) and Kennett confirmed all the good things being said about his development this year. Honourable mentions also to Danny King (never easy when a replacement to have the attitude that you deserve to be there, and to show it) and Lewis Bridger. His heat 16 charge and fall was, I think, down to inexperience – heat 18 always looked a banker three points for him and had he gone about his work in heat 16 a little more carefully he could well have picked up important points there anyway. That will come in time. Perhaps most importantly, as others have posted, it seems that the young guard have finally made a breakthrough. No disrespect to the more experienced riders in the final – they were the young Turks once – but fans always want to see the next generation arrive. Last night, plus the excellent WTC U21 qualifying result, has given the average British supporter rather more joy than he or she has had in a long time (unless, of course, you are Disgruntled of Poole)

Some posts are moaning about him not being happy for not winning, (why should he be?) Another post slates him off for trying!  I also dont understand SCB's reasoning for keeping Bomber and Rory ahead of Scott. I know at the end of the day it boils down to opininons, but since Scott has came to us he's been the captain of a very succesful team having won the league and the KO cup in his two seasons (but thats for a different thread)  Big congratulations to Bomber, his season goes from strength to strength and long may it continue.  Howe deserves his wild card place he was the best non g.p rider all night, and has been all season out of the brits.  Kennett was impressive as were King and Allen.  Disappointed that Tai pulled out after his crash, despite not agreeing with him riding in the British final having said he wants to be an Aussie, I was looking forward to seeing him ride

Agree with your sentiments entirely TFI. Â Having browsed through the Oxford thread and read the 'the trouble with British Speedway' comments, perhaps it is the downbeat supporters that are the 'problem' Â I think British speedway has a good future in front of it - let's get behind these British riders - all of them, instead of going on about the Crumps, Adams and Pedersens of this world - as good as they are! Hazzman
I was very encouraged by certain youngster's peformances last night. I was hoping Kennett got the wild card but hey, Kennett being only 20 his time will come. Â Decent meeting as well but my non-Speedway fan Dad was not happy with the delays in between heats. But maybe that's just me. As I said before, fair play to him though.  I was very encouraged by certain youngster's peformances last night. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I forgot to put this in my original post. Well done Kennett, King and Bridger
bananas
I'll put it simply - Well Done Bomber!!!! Â Absolutely cracking and I've gained so much respect for him this year (even though he rides for Coventry ) that I hope he continues to make his mark in the GPs. Finally we can stop calling Scott "British No.1" coz if he truly was then Britain would be in dire straights!! Â Also Well Done David Howe - who cares it was held at Wolves? I suppose he chose the track so that he had an advantage? Nope, he rode his heart out and fully deserves the Wild Card - see you at Cardiff!! Ivanhoe
Well what a farce that was! 22 heats and 2 and a half hours just to tell us what we knew all along: Bomber is the current British Number 1 and David H00000we has been gift wrapped certain humiliation in 25 days time. Marvellous.  As I stated a week or 2 back, the idea of having the best placed Brit (excluding Scott or Bomber) as the Wild Card is a good one, but surely not if any of the riders are tearing round their own circuit? Imagine the backlash if Kennett had prevailed around Wimborne Road, or heaven forbid, Rico around the Abbey?  Enjoy your day in Cardiff, David. Next year you’ll be back in the bar with the rest of us. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Quite right !  It would have been better to pick the best performing Brit in the Elite League this year wouldn't it ? GeneralMelchett
Finally, bloody brilliant to finally see the new wave of British talent starting to make in roads and the old boys starting to look jaded. About time - we can't rely on the likes of Louis, Screen etc for ever and it was good to see some of the younger riders do so well. And we finally have some racers coming through. I felt heartened for British speedway's future watching that last night - now all we have to do is keep nurturing these guys! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Whilst I would never promote using youngsters unless they are good enough or better than the old farts they are replacing they certainly seemed to revel on the big stage last night and it seems that a couple of them are finally coming of age, which is vital for GB Speedway. barrow boy
Whenever the issue of should Scott Nicholls still be in the GP's I have in the past been of the opinion that as he was our national champion he should even if only as an invited wild card. It will now be interesting to learn if he feels it necessary now to take part in this year's GP qualifiers which might now be the only way to stay in. SuzieQ
Absolutely pathetic <{POST_SNAPBACK}>   pathetic may be a bit harsh, but i agree that when a young british rider, who is a genuinely nice bloke, gets slated at the highest point of his career, just because a meeting was held at his current home track,is very sad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  excuse me?  I was brought up to speak the truth!  Not to be two faced!  with this in mind, why should I congratulate a rider that I am not keen on at the best of times!  Well I'm changing the advert to I'll be cheering on Bomber in Cardiff!!!! and not because he won last night but because I think Scott Nicholls is a miserable, selfish git!  <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Strangely enough, another reason I am pleased I am not going to Cardiff now! Silver Bee
with this in mind, why should I congratulate a rider that I am not keen on at the best of times! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Â Funny how easily you snap when I'm in the same situation with Davey Watt
Subedei
Always a pleasure to see people coming round to my way of thinking. But sad to see some people continue to purchase the excuses of a massively over-rated rider. Congratulations to Chris Harris on his victory and to David Howe on becoming the Wild Card for the British GP. Now, what will the cry be if both Harris and Howe score better than the former British champion in the British GP.

Strangely enough, another reason I am pleased I am not going to Cardiff now! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would guess most of us were brought up to speak the truth.Doesn't mean we always have to accentuate the negative. Can't understand why people always have to go on and on and on about riders that ain't going to get their support. How many times have we heard from a certain forumite that they won't support Lee Richardson?20?50?100? Ok i don't have the same negative feelings about riders that some do.I have riders i like. The others i am fairly neutral about.I don't think i have one rider i don't like. But if a rider who wasn't one of my favourites beat someone i did like i would still congratulate them.Or alternatively i would just keep schtum! rabbit
Must admit one of the biggest laughs we had all night was when they honed on the vacuous looking bimbo that was obviously 'guest of honour' whilst she was stood with Johnathon Chapman, and there was John Davis in the corner of the shot having a right old perv at her. In yer dreams JD, in yer dreams!
