fatface
The biggest ever prize for a speedway meeting and it's on a temporary track, i just hope the $100,000 is won by the best rider and not lost by some poor sod hitting a rut. Bad decision b.s.i., the biggest prize in the history of the sport should have been raced on a PROPER track. Nevertheless i've booked front row seats and my hotel, so lets hope it will live up to all the hype it's gonna get over the next few months <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bad idea, but you're still going? Not big on principles eh? Personally, I think it's a cracking idea. I like the tagline "Motorsport's richest minute" a lot. The stadium looks great. It will guarantee a meaningful last GP. I was thinking along the lines of only taking in Cardiff/Bydgoszcz this year, but looks like I'll be raiding the piggy bank again.
Rob B
My only fear with all this promotion of the richest minute etc, is that the stadium will probably be less then a quarter full. Ticket prices are quite hnigh can't see your average German with not much interest in Speedway attending.

I was surprised to meet some German fans at the Latvia GP last year. Also, its pretty reachable for the Poles and Danes too. And it looks like cheap flights are to be had from the UK. I think it can be a success and I truly applaud the ambition behind the project.
Rob B
But with the high ticket prices you won't get many Poles there, just a handfull of die hards.

Anyway, like I say, we'll see. I certainly have a lot more hope for this than I did for the Aussie GP at Olympic Stadium.

When ever I've met him after spring 2004 I've had a chat. He usually takes 1-2 busses full of people to every GP.

Rob B
You are talking about hundreds in a 62,000 capactiy stadium, I don't think there will be even 10,000 there. But we'll see.
The Know
I cant wait, should be good and its nice to go somewhere new. Lets hope about 20000 + turn up and make it a great day.
Rob B
Sorry to sound negative all the time but you are living in cloud cuckoo land. The only places that have got 20,000 or more the last few years are Cardiff, Copenhagen and Wroclaw. Even Bydgoszcz only got 17,000 last year, Prague doesn't even get 10,000 anymore and thats full of Poles and lots of Brits. I was at the last German GP at Berlin, the weather might not have helped as it poured down but there was only a couple of thousand there. Gelsenkirchen is going to look so empty, but we will be there.
Gemini
Well, look on the bright side. At least now Cardiff won't be holding the 100th Grand Prix in March 2008, which was the original plan. It is so much nicer walking around Cardiff and having a drink in the warm June sunshine. In some ways it would make more sense to stage Cardiff earlier or later in the year because the unpredictable weather isn't a concern with the sliding roof. I do however totally agree that the 'Cardiff Experience' just wouldn't be the same in colder months.

I think they've already said the stadium is unavailable in March, but I can't check because someone has taken the Speedway Star to bed with them. Nothing generates public intrest in a sporting event like money does.

bananas
Just booked my flights, hotel and tickets. Last minute family decision to make a weekend of it We're in block D2 on the back straight, front row, which hopefully should be an excellent view. Can't wait! Re: the standing issue, looking on the plans and on the stadium piccys, it looks like it'll be on the bends only.
