Jason Lyons Dinner & Testimonial

Recommended Posts

No problems Ozy.

See you at Mildura for the Jason Lyons testimonial. We had Brendon Gledhill refereeing yesterday at Broadford and he announced that Simon Stead is a starter. That means something like the Oz championships numbers 1,2,3 & 5 will all be riding.

Stolen quote from another topic I know, but this sounds like a huge weekend, I thought it deserved its own thread.

Do we have a full entry list yet, Lunchy? Any Interstate visitors booked your Loungeroom floor out yet?

Are the Usual Suspects driving over from Perth again, Ozy?

I'll be with you in spirit(s) on Turn 1.

I didn't know Simon was riding until Lunchy mentioned it, i guess he will going over with Leeroy Redmond.

Myself, Johno and Bunge are flying out Thursday morning and head up to Mildura from Adelaide Friday for the dinner.

I'll be there drinking spirits on turn 1 :P

Nothing on the Mildura website so I'll add what I can. The ones I know that are riding are

Lyons

Crump

Adams

Johnno

Stead

Hedley

Woodward

Gathercole

Lemon

Matt Jones

At a guess throw in the usual suspects and the rest should include people like (but please don't quote me)

Proctor

Ksiezak

Summers

Bugeja

Gates

Mark Jones

Wethers

I have no idea if any of the NSW boys like Holder & Doyle will be coming down.

Shame my loungeroom floor is 600 km from the track else I probably would have it filled !!

Can Not remember the last one - I'm sure that's Matt Jones, I heard Brendan Gledhill say at Broadford last week that he was riding.

Not far off the field for the just completed Australian championships and looks like being a belter of a meeting, just hope I survive without too much of a headache.

When is this meeting? I hope Jason gets a gpod crowd he deserves it. I remeber being in Manchester the night of Jasons UK testimonial, sadly, I was flying through the air at about th time the last few races would have been taking place, I did try look out of the plan for the track but I could see nothing. Had we landed sooner we were going to try and make our way to see the meeting.

Is that young Ryan Sedgeman, Lunchy? He's really playing with the big kids now! Best of luck to him, isn't he going over to Denmark this year? I bet they'll be fitting people in with a shoehorn again at Olympic Park, Jason is a local legend so I'm sure there'll be a huge turnout, love to be there.

Yes, Ryan is playing with the big boys and mixing it pretty well too. He won a heat at the Oz qualifiers and was certainly not off the pace. As for Denmark I have no idea, I'll try and find out at the weekend.

There is one more Sedgeman still to come too, younger brother Justin Sedgeman is still a junior and he's not without ability either. I think he's still a year or two away from senior ranks though.

The meeting is this Saturday night (Jan 27th). There is also a big dinner on the night before (Friday Jan 26th) at Coomealla (just over the river from Mildura) that I think is fully booked out.

Last few races didn't happen in his testmonial at Belle Vue, it was called off after about 10 heats off the top of my head, was a mud bath. Rained pretty much all day, badly affected the crowd, hope he got a good crowd in Mildura.

Yes I survived BFD. Unfortunately didn't catch up with Ozyace, I started to head round to the bar but got sidetracked and never made it and I didn't go in the clubhouse afterwards.

The racing wasn't much to write home about. Quite a few falls and problems with near falls early on and the referee came out on to the track to inspect turn one and ordered a track grade after heat 4. There were two attempts to run heat 12 which never got past turn one and was abandoned so we could have another track grade and we only ended up with 19 heats. Before people ask Crump fell in heat 2 and had seven points from four rides, and in his last ride he ambled out the gate and was content to cruise around in third for four laps. Gathercole had 2 falls, a fall / remount, a nearly fell 3rd, and a fourth.

The positives were it was a good crowd and the night was a fine one weather wise. Great if you liked good atmosphere but not a great one for the racing purists. Adams was unreal though, how he made it look so easy I'll never know. Woodward was impressive too and as for the guest of honour he went really well and was unfortunate to be on the wrong end of the two best passes of the meeting, one by Adams and one by Kevin Doolan. Times slowed as the night went on and in the second half of the meeting were up in the 62 & 63 second area compared to the track record of 58 something and you could see there wasn't that much urgency about things later on. I suppose it was only a testimonial though.

Adams 15

Woodward 12

Lyons 12

Doolan 9

McGowan 9

Lemon 9

Ksiezak 8

Stead 8 (from 4)

Crump 7 (from 4)

Wethers 6

Johnston 6 (from 4)

Sedgeman 4

Proctor 4 (from 4)

Hedley 4 (from 4)

Gathercole 1

Matt Jones 0
