tomazpozrl
The following has been released by the FIM today: Following the decision taken by the Speedway Grand Prix Commission, please find hereafter the main modification for the 2007 Ind. Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Regulations. This modification in the regulation concerns the points system. We will keep the format with 20 heats, 2 Semi-Finals and one Big Final. The difference is in the points system: now, in the 20 heats and the two Semi-Finals the riders will score the following points: For first place 3 points For second place 2 points For third place 1 point For fourth place 0 points For the Big Final, the points would be doubled so the riders will score the following points: For first place 6 points For second place 4 points For third place 2 points For fourth place 0 points The qualification system for eligibility to the Big Final will be the same as in 2006: the eight top-scoring riders after Heat 20 will qualify for the Semi-Finals. The winner and second placed in each Semi-Final will qualify for the Big Final. Concerning the meeting result for each SGP round, the placings for the first, second, third and fourth rider will be determined by the results of the Big Final. The third and fourth placed riders of each Semi-Final who did not make it to the Finals will be classified according to their points scored in heats 1 to 20 plus the points scored in their Semi-Finals. For all other riders who did not qualify for the Semi-Finals, they will keep their points scored in heats 1 to 20. Points scored by each rider at the conclusion of the meeting will be credited as Grand Prix points in the overall classification. Subedei
Ah, bless their little cotton socks, for trying to help a serial failure to qualify by right.
sjw ministerofport
That seems better I don't think the semi finals without points was the right way. Saying that I don't think it will make any difference if Jason is in the same kind of form or one of the other riders.
Rico
Not a good move imo. There are too many potential flaws in the scoring system. An extreme example would be Rider A could score 7 points in the meeting, finish second in his semi-final and win the final netting 15 points and 'winning' the GP. (7 + 2 + 6). Whereas Rider B could score 15 points in the main meeting, win the semi final and finish second behind Rider A, finish second in the Grand Prix, yet score 22 points (15 + 3 + 4). I don't see how a GP winner can receive less points than the rider who finished second. I am not sure what the reasoning behind changing the points system is, it certainly won't produce a closer World Championship if last years form is anything to go by. I think extra points for semi-final losers isn't a bad thing, but to 'win' the GP you should be expect to walk away with the most points as well. Subedei
End of the day Rico, a rider could win all the GPs, but still not be world champion. This is nothing more and nothing less than a shameful attempt to make Nicholls' performances in the GPs look better and give him a chance of managing to qualify for 2008 "on merit". Guest Schumi
Maybe someone should point out it's not obligatory to change the rules every year. Or can they not count up to the big numbers any more?

The guy coming 3rd in the semi gets 1 (THATS ONE) extra point and the guy coming last gets 0. So making the semis hardly adds anything extra. Yet it becomes a joke that a rider could score 15, then have EF in the semi and have 15 points, another guy scores 6 and then comes 2nd in the semi yet has 8 points, but he gets to ride in the final then he wins the final so he now has 14 points. So the guy coming 8th in the GP has 15 points but the guy winnig it has 14! What a joke! You can see it now, GP 2 and they announce that Crumpy is leading the Championship but Nicki Pedersen won the first GP!! WTF?!

Drew
Doesn't seem quite right to me but at least they didn't introduce the tactical ride where any rider more than nine points behind the leader can score double if he appears in the Black?White hat!! Grachan
This is bizarre! How can you have a system where the winner of the GP doesn't neccesarily get the most points? Still, I'm sure it's only for one year. It usually is.
