I went by myself a few years ago. Trick is to do alot of homework on Prague, maps in hand and directions. I used the transport to and from the Airport for the particular hotel. Lots of Prague websites have transport to and from the hotels. There are plenty of forum members going to Prague, maybe get to know them during the season before Prague. Prague is a beautiful city. mojo
I am looking at Prague for my first foreign GP. But I'm a woman and I'm going alone. Any advice. I'm just a bit worried about how to get from Airport to Hotel to Stadium etc. Havent booked a hotel yet, any suggestions? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My friend and I (female and not so young) will be making our sixth visit this year and try to make it easier each year. You can get a bus and then the underground from the airport to the city and it is very cheap but we usually fly in on a late plane because of work commitments and therefore use Athos Travel and book a taxi on the internet. It is about £ 28 return but they take you to the hotel and pick you up there. It is booked on the Internet but you pay when you get there and they meet you with a board. There are a lot of rip off taxis in Prague so if you use them it is best to ask a price. Obviously it works out cheaper if you can share. We have stayed in a few hotels but like the Mala Strana/Kampa area near Charles Bridge. The 22 tram to Bila Hora goes from there to the stadium (about 50p) so there is no need to go back into the city late at night. Have to buy a ticket from hotels/shops in advance and put it in the machine on the tram. The sights of Prague are all walkable from here and it is a beautiful city. Like most cities there are pickpockets but you just have to be careful and we feel quite safe walking around the city. Hope this helps ( we are on the 6 pm flight from EMA Friday night)
2ndbendbeerhut
Bydgoscz is the most popular but as its right at the end of the season and there are no hotel spaces left in the town I would pick something else <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In 2006 and 2004 i went to Bydgoscsz and didn't have any accomodation. but if you know where to look, its fine! Spooky
I'd recommend Prague, it's so cheap yet lacks nothing. I and another 4 of us stayed just outside the town centre in Krisikova (Prague 8), the food was excellent and cheap, as was the drink! Plenty to do and see and none of it breaks the bank. Eating outside the restaurant is slightly dearer than eating in it though. We made our own arrangements, Easyjet from Stanstead to Prague was around £80 return, Pension was approx £18 per night including continental brekkie! Tickets could be bought at the stadium, but they were limited! Buy online and get a choice. Transport is a breeze, buy a travel card (we paid £7 for a 6 day pass) , the Prague transport system works......................the card is used for buses, trams and metro............unlimited travel within the district. Trams run frequently and reliably to very near the Marketa from any where in the city. Just a short walk past the Polish Campsite....!! lol .... Language is NO problem, most Czechs dealing with the public seem to speak English or German The only pitfall is that August seems to be the rainy season in Praha........... I'm off to Copenhagen this year for the first time........................
