scotty2hotty
I am hoping to go to my first ever foreign GP this year but cannot decide which one to go to. Can you all tell me which was the best for atmosphere, value etc. Thanks
Gemini
It's usually Bigwatsit that's the most popular, but I've never been to any of the foreign ones so I'm not much help really. Sorry.
SCB
Prague works out about £15 for a standing ticket in with the mad Poles and a programme. A beer is about £1.10 outside the stadium and the extortionate price of £1.50 inside the stadium If you're in the centre of Prague you'll need to get the tram to the stadium, which costs about £5 for a 3 day pass (thats trams, busses and the metro). I recon you can spend a week in Prague for the price Travel Plus are charging in this weeks Speedway Star (I include food and drink in that!) if you do it yourself. I think most people seem to prefer Bydgoszcz. Edited January 4, 2007 by SCB
KevH
If it's purely the speedway then Bydgoszcz is the place for you, if the entire weekend counts for more then I would suggest Prague.
Sandie
Bydgoscz is the most popular but as its right at the end of the season and there are no hotel spaces left in the town I would pick something else Prague is great, very popular and you always bump into somone from speedway as its cheap. Copenhagen was fun but more expensive and not as much atmosphere as people tend to do the cheaper ones. See what accomodation is about for them all, that might help. Also why not look at the travel plus tours - that way if you going alone you have agroup of like minded people with you. Let us know what you pick ad good luck - enjoy
KevH
Bydgoscz is the most popular but as its right at the end of the season Apart from the meetings in Slovenia and Germany that is.
Rob B
For someone going to their first GP abroad, Prague is definatly the easiest and cheapest. Lots of cheap airlines flying there, lots of hotels, very good public transport easy to get around. Very cheap food and drink.
youngy105
Am planning on going to Prague this year. Can anyone help with information about where to get cheap flights and if you can buy tickets at the Stadium.
sjw ministerofport
Why not try Wroclaw, okay the racing might not be as good as Bydgoszcz, but the city square is brilliant for good cheap food and drink (but good quality). The atmosphere around the city is great and at the stadium. The Poles are very friendly and all ages seem to mix happily together from what I have seen. We stay at the Raddisson SAS which is high quality and very reasonable price wise(90Euros for double room a night we managed). Flights from East Midlands direct to Wroclaw were available when we booked.
Mateusz
Exactly. Bydgoszcz is the best as for speedway but Wroclaw leads in all other aspects of a drunken GP weekend I'd say that Bydgoszcz is a bit more hardcore and if I were a foreigner I'd try Wroclaw first. Never been in Prague at the GP tho'.
Nikkif
I saw my first GP in Wroclaw. Lovely place, cheaper than Prague! And the speedway is fab I'd recommend it as a first GP location! (also as its nearer the start of the series, if u get the bug u can then book up any others u fancy! )
bananas
I'm going to my first foreign one this year and from what I've been told from others - Prague is the one. Yeah, Poland is probably better for the actual speedway but for everything altogether, Prague is coming out most favourable. I'm struggling to get anyone to come with me though and don't want to go alone but I object to paying loads to go on an organised tour when I could do it a lot cheaper by myself
fatface
Yup, I'd agree that Prague is probably the best shout. although I had a cracking time in Slovenia too. Ljublijana (is that right?!) is a great place to stay. As for Daugavpils, the less said the better...

From Manchester cheapest is BMI Baby but nothing from Manchester is particulary cheap. Also Czech Airlines but they have gone pretty expensive now. Others to look at are Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford. Thomson from Sheffield. BMI Baby and Easyjet from Nottingham East Midlands and I find the cheapest Easyjet from Stansted or Luton. You can buy tickets from the stadium but we just find it easiest to buy them online, you can print them yourselves on your printer then they just scan the barcode. sjw ministerofport
Falcace, did you drive down from Ljublijna to Krsko? how were the roads? We are going this year and have already got our flight tickets and are going to hire a car from the airport. Any advice please.

Done it 4 times now. The roads are good, motorway about half the way then single carriagway. Takes about an hour and a half, great views. Prague seems to be better for racing than Bydgoszcz. Lots more to see in Prague but the tourists are starting to get ripped off, this wouldn't happen in Bydgoszcz. 21st century heathen
I've only done Prague, Stockholm (although it was the one that was moved to Avesta at the last minute) and Copenhagen. Of the three I'd recommend Prague as a fantastic all rounder. It's the cheapest of the three. It's quick and easy to get to. The city is very nice. The track may be a little way out of the city centre, but it's not a problem to get to. Public transport is cheap and reliable. And as for the speedway itself, when the track is prepared well it can be very good indeed. Prices are certainly edging up, but it's a lot cheaper than here or Scandi. If you want to do it on the cheap then look for apartments to rent in the private sector, and check out flights from smaller UK airports such as those suggested. Just check the small print for add ons such as tax. Also have a look at Bristol. I have an Aunt and Uncle that go to Prague every year, and the last I heard they use it all the time. I've never looked myself as I'd rather pay extra for the convenience of B'ham just up the road/tracks. And as a footnote to all this, and a side step from speedway, go to Stockholm. Loved it, and I will have to go back there one day.
