tomazpozrl
Slovenian speedway season starts this Sunday with an opening round of Slovenian-Croatian-Austrian championship. There are some changes to the lineup from last year, Marko Vlah of Croatia has quit speedway, Norbert Grogler of Austria is also on the sidelines till June, and Ales Kraljic is coming back after 2 year absence. All the big names are still in, though, with Matej Zagar aiming for 7th Slovenian title. Zagar will be using both Jawa and GM engines this year, although he says Jawa is still his preference. His strongest opponents will probably be Jurica Pavlic, who is in great form this year and Jernej Kolenko, this year on GM engines. Experienced Izak Santej will also be mixing it in with the best, as will Austrians Hauzinger and Wallner. Maks Gregoric is hoping to step up a ladder this year after big financial investment into his engines (he is using one of the well known tuner). There should be a great battle for the title of best Slovenian junior between Matija Duh and Matic Voldrih, who are both making a steady progress year after year. Ales Kraljic has proved in practice that he can still ride a bike and he has set himself an aim to finish in 3rd place in Slovenian championship. That's a short introduction to the championship, if anyone is interested in more info, feel free to ask. Lineups for both group B and group A can be seen here: http://www.speedway.si/index.php?option=co...5&Itemid=
iris123
Any further info on Matic Voldrih?I see he will be in the Güstrow round of the World Junior Championship And will there be any official follow-up with Martinec's absence from th UEM U19 meeting at Güstrow?A fine maybe or not being nominated for international meetings in future
tomazpozrl
Voldrih first sat on a speedway bike in 2002 (125 ccm bike) and then officially started his career in 2004. He immediatelly showed that he is a prospect but in his first official championship meeting in Krsko he fell and broke his arm, which ruled him out for the season. He came back in 2005 but again he was unlucky with an injury, this time in World U21 team championship in Germany where he suffered a complicated leg injury. Injury problems forced him to rethink about his future in speedway, but luckily he decided to give it another go and is now making a steady progress, especially mentally. In an interview for our website http://www.speedway.si/index.php?option=co...2&Itemid=62 Matic said that his aim this year is to become Slovenian junior champion which is quite optimistic (with his biggest rival Matija Duh in great form). Matic also commented on the U21 meeting in Germany and said that he wants to get in the top 10 and with some luck maybe also qualify for the semifinal. Apparently Croatians were thinking of giving Nikola a ban because of what happened in Gustrow.

tomazpozrl
Results from Krsko can be seen here: http://www.speedway.si/index.php?option=co...6&Itemid=62 It was quite an entertaining meeting. Santej was dominating first part of the meeting, but then suffered an engine failure in his 4th heat while in the lead. Zagar and Kolenko finished regular heats with 13 points each and the winner had to be decided in a run off. Zagar took the lead, but then Kolenko cut to the inside on the first bend and passed Matej. Coming out of the 2nd bend Kolenko left too much space and Zagar flew pass him to take the lead and win. Santej beat Pavlic in a run off for 3rd place. Unluckiest rider of the meeting was definitely Ales Kraljic. He returned to the track after 2 years and was very optimistic but it didn't last even one full lap. In his first heat Austrian rider Johannes Fiala took the lead and Ales followed him down the backstraight. He was obviously quicker than Fiala, but rode too agressively into the 2nd bend, almost hit Fiala and then flew into the fence. Fiala also fell and suffered a broken leg, while first reports from the hospital suggested that Ales suffered a back injury which could put him off the track for at least 3 months. Riders get payed only for the expenses, according to the AMZS rules (around 400 euros for the win etc.). Anyway, Zagar still gets quite a lot of money, but from club sponsors and his personal sponsors. As far as fans are concerned: there were quite a lof of them there in Krsko, at least for the Slovenian championship (around 1500-2000), but they mainly occupied the grandstand and the first corner (between the grandstand and the pits) and cameras didn't show them. tomazpozrl
Third round of SLO-CRO-AUT championship that was held today in Prelog (Croatia) was won by Jurica Pavlic, Matej Zagar was 2nd and surprise of the day Aleksander Conda 3rd. Meeting was ruined by a horrific accident of Jernej Kolenko in heat 11. Kolenko and Santej collided and both hit the fence pretty hard. Santej soon got up and walked to the pits but Kolenko was knocked unconscious and later taken to the hospital. The latest news from the hospital is that he is still in a coma and we are now awaiting more positive news about him. Helicopter took him today to Ljubljana where he will get the best care. Doctor said today that he's condition is better than yesterday and we all hope and pray that he will be ok soon - with no consequences.
