BigFatDave
Going to be a great day! Bryn <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you off up there as well, Bryn? Jetsetter! Should be a good meeting in memory of an excellent Bloke, one of the best. Did you see the Crumpy interview etc. on "Chequered Flag" last night? He might talk like a to & from but he's still an Aussie at heart.
ozpirate
Dave Booth provided the Labrador faithful with many thrills in recent years at the Gold Coast venue. Apart from being a quality racer, he was always on hand lending encouragement to the juniors. Fans and riders alike will have their chance this Saturday night to remember Dave at this excellent looking meeting to be staged in his honour. Dave Booth - A time to reflect on a great ambassador for the sport of speedway motorcycle racing.
Nevs
Thanks for the email Bryn telling me to "get me backside over there" as Pop Rivett is riding again. One of my idols as a kid at Exeter. Wish I could mate-but not quite as simple as that-got to work Friday and Saturday and don't have a passport-- Exeter Co-op to Aus without a passport in half an hour is even pushing it for me!!-but apart from those minor details would be there like a shot. Hopefully you have had my reply and can maybe do a sort of interview with Alan or get a piccy and his memories of Exeter that we can put up on the Exeter site at some time in the future. Sure hope the meeting goes well and is a fitting tribute to Dave Booth. Enjoy the meeting and please pass on all our regards from everyone at Exeter to Alan. BigFatDave
The Following Post was pinched from http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/aus_speedway_bikes/ Results: Dave Booth Memorial meeting at Labrador As expected Jason Crump won the trophy in a canter from Scott Smith (who missed the start after getting a roller in the first attempt), Kozza Smith (AKA Korey Williams) and John Oliver in 4th. Behind Crump it was all action as Scott roared from the back to split both Oliver and Kozza - three abreast going over the starting line on lap 2-3. Previously in the repecharge the impressive Oliver rode out of his skin to win. Close behind him Trent Leverington fell with Kozza crashing into him with the chequered flag in sight. Trent was pale- looking after his fall, shaken but not stirred. Ashley Cathcart also required medical attention in another race but he too was uninjured. In heat 12 John Oliver led early but was passed by Sam Taylor. Then Scott Smith had the crowd on their toes when he came through from 3rd to whip past both of them. Meanwhile Oliver regained 2nd place in one of the best races of the day. Dave Watt was a little of the pace with a borrowed engine, his points tally also affected by a dropped chain while well out in front. His battle with youngster Josh Grajczonek was also a close call with Josh pressing the Elite League racer all the way. All in all it was a good meet, if somewhat unusual to be held in mid- summer during the day. This could not be avoided, as an electrical fault outside the premises had caused havoc the previous evening when the place was absolutely packed; I have never seen such a crowd squeezed into the grounds. Perennial UK visitor Bryn Williams also filled in well to replace the ill Bob Leyden as track announcer for the day/night.

Sad to hear Trent has possibly broken a bone in his wrist - let's all wish him a speedy recovery.
Nevs
Any news on "Pop" Rivet Bryn? Did he ride in the end? The Exeter faithful await further news. Sorry to read about Trent Edited December 18, 2006 by Nevs
Bryn
Any news on "Pop" Rivet Bryn? Did he ride in the end? The Exeter faithful await further news. Sorry to read about Trent <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pop rode on Saturday night Nevsy but was unable to return on Sunday as he was setting off on the "short" drive from Brisbane to Perth. I say "short" because without exact measurements, I'm, led to believe it's something like 5000km at least - certainly a five hour flight so probably 2/3 days by road! In his first ride on Saturday, from the outside gate he finished third behind Josh Grajczonek and Richard Sweetman and ahead of Andrew Aldridge, the New Zealander. In his other ride he finished send behind Kozza Smith with Michael Slade third and Elliott Myers fourth. I had a chat with Pop who asked me to pass on his very best wishes to all connected with the bid to resurrect speedway in the Exeter area and to bear him in mind when it comes to team selection! The 'old boy' hasn't a lot of hair left nowadays - none at all in fact!

Trackman
After having the privilidge of seeing a lot of world champions operate on and off the track and from what I saw on Saturday and Sunday, Crumpy as an ambassador to the sport is as good as any of them. After the sad start to his week and once again the calamity of errors at the Gold Coast Speedway, it didn't hold him back from putting a show on for Dave Booth and the public even following the presentation after the meeting he was still signing autographs and having photo's taken with the crowd that hung back. I can understand how urgently he wanted to get away from the speedway and deal with the family bereavement, but he didn't cut his fans short or leave them disappointed. He is a worthy world champion and a gentleman. Regards.
