Kevin Meynell
But then you gets lots of posters on this forum telling us how the PL is being "weakened" or "ruined" and that "standards are falling". You'd think people would just be happy there's any speedway at all, against the odds I might add.
Richspeedway
well with the academy league setting up as well as having the conference league it may bring some more young lads/girls up and then the PL teams will then take them on board, it will take maybe a few years to see the benefit but like most things it takes time to see results but I think there will be more british riders coming through if they continuew what they are doing. May see another Bridger but realisitcally not all riders will come up like that and most will have to be patient and go through the Premier route instead of going straight into the Elite. Kevin Meynell
yes thats right, and thats the attitude that enables promoters to not promote and to year on tear tell us costs are rising too fast and must be cut and the standards drop and supporters go away from the sport. Not at all. I'm the first to complain about the poor value of money that speedway represents, but I think who actually rides is somewhat irrelevant. If the entertainment is sufficient (e.g. number of heats, exciting, presentation), then people will come regardless. How many people who are not currently hardcore supporters actually know who any of the top riders are anyway? If you get new or former former supporters in, new stars will be created. I've watched racing at every level, and Conference League racing can be as, or even more entertaining than the processional rubbish served-up at higher levels. Even if one argues that the BEL needs to have a few of the riders that casual fans might just have heard of, the second division has traditionally had a low standard of rider, and it's only in recent times that it's included first division standard riders. I hope you will still be saying that when there are only a few teams left. Which there will be if teams go bankrupt trying to employ a standard of rider above what they can afford.
