The Allotts

The Allott family are well known in the sport - and deservedly so.

Tommy, Guy, Nicky and Adam. But wasn't there another - Geoff who was a second half rider at Sheffield in the late 1940s?

And just what is the family structure - I am (surprise surprise for me?) a little confused.

Tomy and Guy brothers, then how is the famous clan made up?

I know Guy is Granddad, Nicky son, and Adam is grandson. Not sure about the rest though. :)

I am now positive that Tommy was Guy's older brother. That means which of these was Geoff related to - or was he their younger brother?

Come on Norbold and help us out please!

Tommy was Guy Allots older brother.

Guy Allott went on to be a very good engine tuner, and tuned Ivan Mauger's bikes. Nicky Allott is Guy's son, he rode for Sheffield, Scunthorpe and Hull. Adam is Nicky's son, who has recently forced to retire.

Cannot help with Geoff never of heard him, that is a new one, and unfortunaley Tommy is no longer with us.

Further thought: still positive that a Geoff Allott was named rider in the late 1940s - but could it have been Guy in a name switch?

Nicky also rode for the Ellesmere Port Gunmers in the 70's as well on ex Mauger engines and Guy was forced to retire from being injured after falling from the tractor on a lap of honour i believe!!!

I don't know, there is no record of him in my book of Sheffield legends, and to be quite frank I have never ever heard of him before, but then again I am only 42 and the 1940's were before my time.

When Guy Allot raced at Odsal in the 50s, the nameplate on his bike said Geoff Allot. At the time I understood that Geoff Allot was a relative who failed to make the grade, and Guy bought his bike, but didn't change the nameplate. Also, Guy used to park his car and trailer at the top of the huge banking overlooking what was then the first corner, and his elderly father sat in the car watching the racing.

We are getting somewhere in regard to Geoff Allott. It was probably in 1948 or 1949 when Geoff appeared. Is there a chance he was Tommy's son? Geoff was only a novice or second-half rider at Sheffield.

And aren't the Stead's part of the family too
