Money For Speed

Can anyone shed any light on the 'B' movie made in the early '30s called 'Money for Speed' (and I understand also shown under the title, 'Daredevils of the Earth')?

I believe it used archive (though obviously not old at the time..!!) film of the following riders in action: Frank Arthur, Jack Ormston, Colin Watson, Tom Farndon, Bluey Wilkinson, Jack Parker, Vic Huxley, Eric Langdon, Tiger Stevenson, Ron Johnson, Billy Lamont, Wal Phillips and Frank Varey.

Phew!!

What I'd like to know most is does anyone know what track this filming was made at..  I'm guessing Wembley or New Cross..??

And the $64,000 question..: is the film available anywhere..??  I understand a French-dubbed version (bizarrely) has been unearthed..??

Hi Parsloes,

I can't give you any specific help regarding the film except to tell you the name 'Langdon' should be Langton. Here are some links relating to most of the riders you've named. I've taken them from Google [quite a lot of past years speedway links there]

The Tom Farndon story is in two parts so I've put both links in. The last link is to a monologue written by a well-known Belle Vue personality of yesteryear.

It's been my pleasure and privilege to watch Colin Waton, Jack Parker, Eric Langton, Ron Johnson and [i think] Frank Varey in action. I think I must be getting old, they seem like legends of a bygone era to me!

Anyway, enjoy the links. Sorry I can't help with the film.

Oh, and thanx iris for mentioning Lea Bridge.  As your 'local' track (weren't you born near there..??) can you confirm is that's right, Norbold..??

I believe iris is right, though I have to say I am not 100% sure. And yes, I was born near to the old Lea Bridge track...but many years after it closed!!!
