Alltough Jokerit was clearly at the wrong track today, one of their riders was even lapped, there were a few good battles. Heat 3 where Lehtinen gated and Messing followed. Messing started gathering speed on lap three and dived under Lehtinen on the last lap in turn 3. Lehtinen gave way, I think he thought he already had it in the bag. Heat 4 saw Laukkanen making the gate. Mäkinen and Hautamäki rode side by side until turn 3, where Mäkinen kept it on on the outside and made the pass. Heat 12 saw Messing as a joker. From the start he was half a wheel length in front of Lehtinen as they entered turn 1. Messing simply leaned against Lehtinen to make the room and was gone. Elbows and all... Heat 16 Johansson and Hautamäki (outside) gated and Johansson moved Hautamäki wide in the first corner. It did look a bit harsh but OKish in my book. Hautamäki obviously felt different since he showered Johansson after the finishing line and gave him the finger too. Hautamäki was all red in the pits... Good meetings to look forward to if the weather permits. I think the Pori meeting will decide the championship. If Keittiöpiste wins it before Kopparberg it a done deal. If Kotkat wins it before Kopparberg the lead will be tied. If Kopparberg wins it before Keittiöpiste they will have a chance to challenge Kotkat for silver. Kopparberg will definately have two foreigners (not allowed to mention), so will Kotkat and Keittiöpiste. Even Paholaiset have invested in to getting a foreigner, alltough not of the same standard. So enjoy! EDIT: The word is out that Jari Mäkinen, Tero Aarnio and Rene Lehtinen will ride in the Scandinavian final of the European Championship in Esbjerg, Denmark next mont. Someone will either confirm or deny this late this week. I expect this was a one-off because of the fixture lists dont allow it to necessarily happen again. And alltough I had heard about it about two weeks earlier that he'd be here, Keittiöpiste (his team here) didn't comment about it and in fact had told their riders to keep quiet up about it until they were in a car riding to Pori to get rained off. Results from the weekend tonight, I have them on my home computer, but they dont add up due to a calculation error made by the officials. He was also the person everyone wanted to talk to after the meeting was finished. He gated in front everytime and some thought his manouvers down the backstraight weren't always "politically correct". I saw them too and can understand some of the feelings expressed. He twice "carried" Hyyryläinen over there line before an opponent. If you like team riding you would have loved this! Sadly Palomäki's frame broke in his third ride, so they had to use Hyyryläinen. In the last heat of the day Keittiöpiste outgated Leijonat and Reima was unable to challenge Hautamäki who was covering Lahti in the lead. I wouldn't have been surprised if Palomäki had laid his bike down on the third lap to get an exclusion and give Reima a second shot, but it didn't happen. Palomäki retired on his last lap as others crossed the finishing line. A good meeting again. There seems to be alot of these going around! f-s-p Posted August 12, 2007 Author Report Share Posted August 12, 2007 Extraliiga meeting at Lahti was stopped today after heat 8. In that heat Aarni Heikkilä hit the fence pretty hard back wheel first. When landing after some somersaults he hurt his neck quite badly and broke his wrist also. More information later. Haukat was in the lead at this point. Main reason for stopping the meeting was the rain. For the same reason the Kaupunki Cup meeting was cancelled all together. Wooden sheets and the pilars are 4 by 4 inch wood. They would probably stop a tractor if necessary. It was raining and the track was very slick. I was told his backwheel hit the fence, bike lifted and then Aarni was flying. Other source questioned the fact if he hit the fence or not.
