f-s-p
The oneoff final of the Kaupunki Cup was staged yesterday at Haapajärvi. I'm waiting with great interest will I ever get the full results. There's hope... Seinäjoki 61 Joni Keskinen 133333 16 Niko Siltaniemi 32222 11 Rene Lehtinen 33333 15 Mikko Koskinen 22FN 4 Petteri Koivunen 23312 11 Pasi Mattila 3001 4 Kauhajoki 28 Markku Autio 21T2221 10 Jere Mattila 01013 5 Juho Ruuska 12110 5 Olli Heikkilä 01002 3 Reino Koivuluoma 2N120 5 Niko Siltaniemi has improved a lot since May. I wrote that he looked impressive then and he looked a lot better and more in control in the Extraliiga round at Lahti a few weeks ago. Now he scored 11 on his hometrack. The opposition was weak though... Neither team has been full! Reino Koivuluoma is aged 65+... Pasi Mattila has won a heat! He had 11 heats with 00000000000 before this one... Never seen him ride but I think I could beat him!
f-s-p
As stated in other threads Tero Aarnio and Joni Keskinen will hit the track in the UK this weekend. They are in Scunthorpe for the David Nix memorial and on the Isle for the Pete Redfern meeting. I believe that this will be their first meetings in the UK, but I honestly believe that Aarnio should be challenging for the win in Scunthorpe. I also know that he's probably put so much pressure on himself to do well that he might under perform big time. Hopefully there wont be any R's marked to the scorecharts because that would be just terrible for him. A week from now they have a third meeting scheduled for friday, but I wont go in to greater detail regarding that one before someone else opens the discussion. Jari Mäkinen will fly to the UK next wednesday to ride in two meetings during the weekend. One of them being the Cumberland Classic/Northern Championship. Almost a full team of Finnish riders in the UK then next week... They could ride as a team using f-s-p R/R for #5.

Al Stewart
Don't forget to keep me informed of the dates as soon as you know them, we're planning a trip "up country" to support Jari. I will be the Speedway Sanomat's UK correspondent and keep you up to date with his progress. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On Friday 28th September the match at Armadale will be Edinburgh v Finnish Select, start time 7.30pm. The Finnish team is Nieminen, Aarnio, Laukkanen, Keskinen, Makinen, Katajisto, Koivunen. I think this is probably the first time a full Finnish team has raced in the UK. I hope you can come! f-s-p
Interesting, didn't know Petteri Koivunen was gonna be there. Could be that he's on tour with Aarnio and Keskinen... There goes my dream of being #5 R/R of the team Might be true about the first time. I'm not coming... Maybe next season. I've been promised the full results from Haapajärvi next week... Kauko Nieminen won Seinäjoki speedway yesterday before Juha Hautamäki, Rene Lehtinen and Appe Mustonen. Full results on that later today. Edited September 23, 2007 by f-s-p

Tiger Cub
This is taken from the official Edinburgh website Friday 21 September 2007 "The Scotwaste Monarchs will race against a touring team from Finland next Friday night in an international challenge." Has anyone any idea as to which Finnish side is coming to Edinburgh on Friday and at what other tracks are they appearing?
Dekker
Has anyone any idea as to which Finnish side is coming to Edinburgh on Friday and at what other tracks are they appearing? Tiger Cub
As to the team next friday look 4 posts upwards from yours. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whoops, I hadn't noticed that. I thought it was going to be a touring club side. Next question, who are Edinburgh bringing in to replace Laukkanen and Katajisto or have I missed that as well? f-s-p
So f-s-p is there any young talents in finland ready to break onto the english scene <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is from the David Nix meeting: Adam Roynon 15 Tero Aarnio 11 Simon Lambert 11Darren Mallett 11 Byron Bekker 10 Benji Compton 9 Jonathan Bethell 9 Mark Thompson 9 Joni Keskinen 8 Scott Richardson 7 Karl Mason 7 Martin Emerson 4 Ricky Scarboro 3 Nathan Irwin 3 Mark Richardson 2 Adam Lowe 1 Wayne Dunworth 0 Says Aarnio was comfortably in second when his chain snapped, in the last bend! Jari Mäkinen would be there already if it wasnt for the BSPA and their dodgy assessed average of 8.00 for him. He will be in Edinburgh and at Workington the next day. Aarnio has a similar assessed average (nothing dodgy there) and has been talking about going over to UK for a couple of years now. Now he's made it, hope something good come's out of it. He was gonna ride for Kings Lynn 2005? before his average was assessed. Everything was set before they realised he would come in on 8.00. We have a few of Katajisto standard or better... For an individual meeting. Then at Edinburgh and dont know about the rest. Kaj Laukkanen has been the man behind this meeting at Edinburgh. It's not an official test match and thats probably why it's been said it's a touring Finnish team.
MattyHart
So what average do the finnish lads come in on?,8.00 like you mentioned or 5 like katajisto
f-s-p
So what average do the finnish lads come in on?,8.00 like you mentioned or 5 like katajisto <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's directly from the ACU/BSPA rulebook, copypasted to this thread and is a couple of pages before this one. Basically it depends on your riding history. If you've ridden in the Swedish Elitserien or Allsvenskan, Danish or Czech leagues you will be give an 8.00. Katajisto hadn't ridden in any of these, neither had Mäkinen. Aarnio had a history from both the Elitserien and Allsvenskan in Sweden. Mäkinen was given an eight because he's the Finnish U21 Champion.
f-s-p
Just to add to all I have said in this thread, I realised this due to being asked... Feel free to use any info such as stats from this thread. I've made them myself mostly and give them away over here (in Finland) as the truth. Comments here by me are by a fan, I do my "journalism" in a different language and with a different attitude so ask before using them and most certainly these need editing. EDIT: This thread has broken 8000 views, nice. Alltough I still cant understand how German News gets more interest! But it looks like Finnish News is gonna double the posts and triple it's views from last year. Edited September 27, 2007 by f-s-p
Ghostwalker
sorry if this already has been mentioned but i have noticed that Hautamäki have signed a 1+1 year contract with Griparna from Nyköping. Griparna rides in Allsvenskan.
f-s-p
Thats nice to hear, I understand he likes the track there. I will see him tomorrow for a chat so this was good info...
arnieg
Thank you for the comprehensive coverage of speedway in Finland, and hope Edinburgh goes well. But I have one question: What happened to LahtiForssa'a last two meetings in the Kapunki Cup. The league table at the end of July shows three matches outstanding, but details of only one more fixture.
