Elitserien 2007

Recommended Posts

Linus is born on March 3rd 1989 and has just completed his second season in 500cc as a member of the Smederna/Team Bikab organisation in Eskilstuna.

A member of the Swedish U16 International back in 80cc, took 2nd place in the Swedish U16 Championships back in 2004.

Took some steps forward during the second half of 2005 and doubled-up with Bysarna and had a few good meetings from reserve in Allsvenskan League.

He continued his development in 2006, making his debut in Smederna, riding in the Swedish U21 team, qualifying for the Nordic U19 Championship (finishing 8th) and made a fine performence in the Swedish U21 Championship in finishing on 8th place with 8 points.

Stats:

-2005

Bysarna (Allsvenskan), 4 meetings, 15 points in 13 heats, 4.62 incl bonus points

Team Bikab (Division 1), 9 meetings, 69+6 points in 36 heats, 8.33 incl bonus points

-2006

Smederna (Elitserien), 7 meetings, 6 points in 9 heats, 2.67 average*

Team Bikab (Allsvenskan), 14 meetings, 68 points in 60 heats, 4.53 average*

* Bonus points were not calculated in official stats for 2006

At first glance, it may seem strange that he averaged less in Allsvenskan in 2006 in comparison with 2005, but keep in mind that bonus points weren´t calculated for official stats in 2006 and that he rode in the main body of the team for most/all of 2006.

Definitely a rider for the future who might get himself into the 5 rider Swedish U21 WTC team towards next fall.

Thank you Anders! :)

Any thoughts on the likely squad for the U21 team.6 or 7 riders with the best chance at the moment?

Andreas Messing, Thomas H Jonasson, Robin Törnqvist and Ricky Kling seems certain.

Robert Pettersson had a slow start to last season, he didn´t ride enough meetings and IMO fell behind others juniors that rode frequently in the Swedish Elitserien but came back towards the end of 2006.

Billy Forsberg had his breakthrough in the finals against VMS Elit and will be the steal of the 2007 season with a starting average of 2.00, an absolute bargain in the team building process and a must-be in the Swedish U21 squad.

So in a squad of seven riders, it leaves just one place. Viktor Bergström, born 1986, is in his last year of U21 next season and may be good enough for a top 7 place but it seems as tough competition comes from Linus Eklöf and Fredrik Lindgren´s younger brother Ludvig Lindgren, who both are at least three years younger than Viktor. Eklöf and Lindgren may also get more chances than Bergström in Elitserien next season and they are the most likely candidates for a top 7 place in the Swedish U21 squad.

And one final note, which will surely make Liverstam happy... :approve:

I will also keep an eye out for Kim Nilsson, a talanted rider who is the son of Tommy Nilsson and have just had one year of speedway since changing from motocross. Reasonably good gater and with a tidy style and good control on the bike from what I have seen. He needs seasoning in Allsvenskan (Premier League) but could very well challenge for a top 10 spot in the Swedish Individual Junior Championship next season.

Not a great squad, compared to recent years.Obviously Jonasson must be the big hope.Have seen a number of them.Kling i think hasn't really progressed that much since i first saw him in 2004.Forsberg i saw in the test against Denmark in Malmö.Looked good, but that day Denmark were poor.Even Klindt looked poor that day.Törnqvist,Pettersson and Berqström are also just average riders from the little i have seen of them.Have to hope one of the newer riders like Lindgren or Eklöf comes on next year.Would have thought both denmark and Poland have better squads, but it hard to tell how the youngsters will develope each year

Loosing Lindbäck, Lindgren and Aldén all at once is definitely a huge loss.

With the new rule which means every Elitserien team has do include a junior among the 1-7 in a line-up, riders such as Eklöf, Forsberg, Pettersson and Lindgren (from those who I have mentioned earlier) should benefit a lot from riding against top riders each week, but if that is enough to defend the Swedish silver medal from the U21 WTC remains to be seen.

BTW, with the risk of going a bit off-topic, what will be the German team be like with Hefenbrock and Kroner being 22 years old next year? Wölbert, Dilger, Busch, Hertrich and Lischke? Have I forgotten anyone?

Yes,i agree with the first part.Definitely a big loss, those 3.And a good step forward with the reserves :)

Unfortunately Germany will now struggle. Both Hertrich and Lieschke have "retired",i think :( Of the others maybe Erik Pudel comes into contention, but he is still i think 16.Not sure on the youngsters down south,Facher and Demmel for instance. Not sure on their age. There really hasn't been many new youngsters coming on the scene for the last few years. They have a new ruling in the Bundesliga for next year. Each team must have an U21 + U19 rider

Anders, I think you forgot two young boys in Henkas son Simon Gustafsson and Jonas Messing. I know Jonas did race much alot due to bad arminjury sustained at Galgberget in Visby.

I must namne this boys to: Robin Bergqvist, Linus Sundström, Dan Kjellberg and Pontus Sundström.. Keep an eye on this kids.

What about Billy Forsberg? How wouldyou rate him versus Eklof? How old is Billy?

ps. Iris, heard Pudel has great potential but I've never seen him race.

Billy Forsberg is born: 1988-05-13.

I rate Billy little higher than Eklöf, but I hope Eklöf will go places in 2007.

You will be wise to do so Anders. Halvtum has come on leaps and bounds in only one season. His style of riding is, as you say, very controlled and smooth.

He may well become a real attraction at Griparna this summer. :)

Forsberg is decent from the gate but his biggest advantage is his fighting instinct and ability to pass.

I agree with Tarabanko on this one, I would also rate Forsberg higher at the moment.

Well, yes, Simon Gustafsson isn´t far away from Lindgren and/or Eklöf, but still behind them IMO.

Regarding Jonas Messing, I only saw him twice during the season; in his first meeting on Swedish tracks (Vetlanda 4TT back in April) and less than two heats in a Division 1 meeting at Nässjö late August in which he injured/dislocated his shoulder. He was an excellent prospect on 80cc but as I said, I have seen him too little on 500cc to pass judgement.

Don't want to go too far off topic, but i did hear from one of my German friends that Erik has done a bit of training over the years in Poland. He has also done a lot of 80cc stuff in Denmark.Think he rode in the YGT in Eskilstuna. The trouble is he was stuck with the "wonder kid" name from the German press at an early age(12/13 years old).He did very well in his first season on 500cc last year.Think he was leading the qualifiers for the U21 championship here in North Germany for most of the season. He was absolutely everywhere last year.Almost every meeting i went to,Erik was riding. This year was a bit quiter.I saw him riding for Vojens and he didn't look like he had progressed that much. But at that age they can go for a while without much development then come on in a giant leap the next year.Just like Wölbert and Hefenbrock have in the last few seasons. :)

Sorry guys........back to the Elitserien :D

No worries, Iris :)

Back to the Elitserien! Matej Zagar is planning to give it a miss in 2007. This spells bad news for Kaparna, who were banking on the slovenian to lead their charges. Well, at least that's what everyone assumed.

Zagar has already been confirmed as a member of the Bulldogs side once again in 2007 and will also be riding in Poland, but plans to give Sweden a miss next year.

This is pretty old news. Matej first talked about giving Sweden a miss in 2007 at the end of October at AMKT Ljubljana press conference and then repeated it a couple of times after that.

Apparently he doesn't want too busy schedule next year and as he decided to try himself in Poland, Sweden had to be left out of his plans for next season. I heard he had some pretty decent offers from Swedish clubs, but I guess he will earn much more money in Torun ...

Does anyone have recordings of league meetings or some type of qualifiers where riders like Eklof, Forsberg and Gustafsson are featured?

Both Eklöf and Forsberg can bee seen on Tv4+, I have linked to the site before here in another thread.

Can you shed some more light to his argument with his club, Vargarna. He's been accused of "picking/choosing" his meetings, one in particular. The club made such a noise of the matter, that Zagar was kicked out and all the other clubs were told about the situation. Apparently when signing him, another Swedish club would have to pay something for Vargarna.

This is all from Swedish press from the time when it happened last August/October.

I don't know all the details about that incident, but from what I've heard from Zagar team, there was no "picking/choosing" and Matej apparently had a good reason why he missed the last couple of meetings in Sweden this year. As I said, I am not sure what it was all about, but apparently Matej had some medical proof that he couldn't ride in one of those meetings, and on other occasion he had other commitments.

Matej also said that the situation in Vargarna club this year was not as good as it was last season when he first rode for the club and that relations between him and club officials were not so friendly any more.

When he announced his plans to ride in Poland next year instead of Sweden (at the press conference in Ljubljana in October), he told Slovenian press that the main reason for that is that he hasn't learned anything new in Sweden in these two years, that he doesn't feel good in Sweden any more and that the whole atmosphere doesn't suits him. Therefore he decided to move to Poland to get new challenge.

I can only guess, of course, if his current opinion of Sweden is connected with his argument with Vargarna.
