Russian League

In the current Speedway Star there is a mention of a re-juvenated, lucrative Russian League set for next season.

Along with this it mentions that Pepe Protasiewicz is to ride in the Russian League rather than for Ipswich.

Anyone know of any details of this League - ie who is funding it, how many teams it is likely to contain and any other top riders likely to be lured to ride there?

There will probably be 8 teams in Russian league 2007. They pay the best riders really BIIIIIIIIG money, apparently, Russian Mafia is interested speedway, that's what I heard...

I'm afraid Russian league can replace Polish or Swedish sooner or later, it's completely other world :(

Thanks for that dzikos - sounds like interesting times ahead in Russia.

Wonder which other riders will end up riding over there.

I guess BSI will be keeping an eye on how things develop over there too.

May see a Russian GP in the not too distant future.

BSI would be wise to be wary about entering the Russian fray, known in business circles as the "Wild East". There's big money to be made in Russia, but the risks are very high, just ask BP or Shell.

There's a quote from Matt Ford on speedway+ saying that he heard a top rider getting 4000 £ just to travel... Big country, big money, huge potential.

Also heard from a finnish ref who was there as an official in Vladivostok saying that the meeting he was in was brilliant racing wise. Local riders are on top equipment and no money is saved when it comes to the equipment.

The world of speedway is changing, I see big trouble for the BSPA in the future unless they are able to find loads of british riders to fill the gap when the poles/swedes/danes and the occasional finn really start to ride outside of UK.

While £4,000 certainly isn't to be sniffed at, it's probably about the amount Roman Abramovich spends in a few seconds at Chelsea. There's a lot of petro-roubles floating around Russia at the minute and a lot of very wealthy people.

The speedway world is changing and pretty soon not only will the foreign leagues be creaming off the best of the talent, the foreign riders will soon be knocking on the door of the GPs. The likes of Gafurov, Sajfutdinov, Pavlic and Hefenbrock will soon be pushing for places in the circus. And where will that leave poor, talent bankrupt Britain?

Hmm... Mafia? Petro-roubles? BIIIG money? Top equipment? Do you know what you are talking about? It's ridiculous!

Abramovich doesn't know anything about speedway. Chelsea is just a way to show his wealth, he would never invest those money in speedway.

Our country is really huge and rich for talents, and I hope, that Russian teams will be very attractive for the riders from all over the world soon.

For example, Yohnsson (I don't know how to spell exactly) phoned "Vostok" team manager several times and offered to ride for our team. He has already ridden for "Vostok" last year and as I understand he is interested in further collaboration.

So be afraid of us! We are coming!!!:lol::D;)

What are the dates of the Russian League season?

If a load of top riders decided to ply their trade over there in a new League

which other European League(s) would suffer most.?

Personally, looking forward to the possibility of a Russian GP!

An interesting question. The Russian league doesn't really have a fixed day, like Poland,Sweden and Denmark. If they are hoping to get top foreign stars on a regular basis and not just one or two meetings here and there i guess they have to have a fixed day.Thursday maybe? Can't really see Sweden or Poland suffering,so it will be Denmark and Britain,i guess
