What was the first speedway meeting that you can remember going to :?:

I know others members of the forum have going to speedway, way before me, but below is the details of the first meeting that I went, and got hooked on speedway too.

Wimbledon may have lost this meeting :-( , but I have supported them ever since. :D

I am not sure who we were racing against or much about the meeting, it was April 1981 - i was just a young 3 weeks old so the memory is a little vague

Been a bees fan ever since :)

My first Speedway match was Crayford v Young Sweden in April 1980 but it was my first away match, the 4TT @ Peterborough that year that got me hooked. It was the first (and last!) time that Crayford won anything nationally but like a misty eyed fool, I thought they really were that good all the time!

It started a 10 year love affair that was only extinguished by the first Mrs D but seeing the recent GP's on the satalight has re-awoken my interest. My 3Y old son has started to show a little interest too so hopefully he's picked up something from the old man - pity the nearest track is 4 hours by air away!

I'm pretty sure my 1st meeting was an East Midland Bowl match which was a regular pre-seaon duel between Coventry & Leicester. The year would have been 1971 & i was just a lad of 6 yrs old.Leicester,if i remember we're a strong team &Ray Wilson & John Boulger only dropped 1pt between them, with Coventry's only real resistance coming from Booey & Tony Lomas. The bees promoter was cursing rider control that year i believe cos it meant he was forced to lose the prolific Ken McKinlay.Ring any bells

I can't remember who it was against but i'm sure it was 1986 at Berringotn Lough and that was me hooked to go every week until we moved down to Banbury in 1988 and my dad used to take me to Coventry when he could, its funny because i generally can't stand motorbikes but theres just something about speedway that grabs you and doesn't let go.

Moved up to Inverness in 1989 and never saw live speedway again until i moved back home to Falkirk in 2004 and within travelling distance of my beloved Bandits, only missed a handful of home meetings in 2005 but finances are dicatating otherwise this season with having my own place again sadly :(

I've still got all my old Bandits badges from back then too, Charlie McKinna, Rob Grant, Steve McDermott etc and a few Coventry Bees ones too!

chatting to a mate at Rye House last night I happened to mention this...

the reply worried me somewhat in that the regulation states that any new tracks being built must be within a certain length, therefore all tracks must be stupid small trick tracks.

can anyone confirm this?

no more quality tracks to be opened like canterbury, old poole, exeter, swindon etc  :-(

Is the record stuck

You really have got a BIG problem with the Rye track and set up havent you?
