Why oh why would the Polish League introduce this stupid, stupid rule ! I don't know. They just think it will make matches more interesting or so All I know is that now we'll have these stupid results which total is not 90 or about. Quote Are they so much in financial trouble ? (Seems so, as they cut down from 8 to 7 rider teams) No, that's not the point! This cut is to make the match table clearer etc. and avoid some other controversions. Most teams are not in financial trouble, apart from Torun who are still not sure if they'll be riding in Ekstraliga next year. Every team has to show a proof of financial stability and lack of debts. Unless someone does, they are out (which may happen to Torun). - - - - - My short opinion about it all: - Every single year we got new rules. Some of them are good but mostly it's just another crap. What fans here really would like is to save given regulations for at least 2-3 years and check how/if they work. One year is usually not enough and then when winter comes it's all analysed on a last season's situation in the league. That is stupid. 2 years ago we had play-offs. Later they decided play-offs are bad. But now have it again! No sense, consequence at all! - All these joker, tape etc. rules make only more mess and more controversions.. If teams are good, the track is prepared well there will be a good meeting anyway and we don't need such regulations like joker. Knowing Polish reality where speedway is more than a religion sometimes these strange rules will cause LOTS OF disputes and working out how/who/when... Terrible decisions. Bavarian said: I guess this year crowds were dramatically down on previous years, but that is also entirely due to them allowing Wroclaw to have such a superior team. The change of the previous play-off system also backfired on them. Another big mistake, the Polish League made last winter. And they will suffer even more next season. It's going down, down, down .... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No doubt, hindsight shows that Wroclaw had a superior team. But most thought, at the start of the season, that Tarnow would be the team to beat once again. And at the start of the season Tarnow were steaming away with wins at Leszno (subsequently overturned after Jacek Gollob and Lukas Dryml had their points deducted) and Bydgoszcz. What really let Wroclaw run riot was Tarnow's mid-season collapse into anarchy. What may have had an impact was the sudden removal of foreigner restrictions, which happened after the likes of Bydgoszcz and Tarnow had more or less completed their squads, while late starters to team building, such as Wroclaw and Czestochowa took full advantage. Mateusz
Holta has gone to Tarnow. The contract is due to be signed in December when he's back from his holidays. Both the club and the rider has got everything fixed so it's certain.
Leliwa
Well, not my favorite rider but, considering how limited is the market this year and the need for Tarnow to replace gap left after Tony’s retirement this is the only possible move. The gap will not be filled completely, but Holta is 10+ point riders so should be ok. More news and speculations from Tarnow camp: Talks with Tomek Gollob and Janusz Kolodziej are ongoing. I really hope for successful completion of the negotiations although one has to always consider that one of them could choose to ride elsewhere. An absolute must is signing of Kolodziej, he is our local boy and loosing him means loosing a lot of fans support. Jacek Gollob would like to stay but his contract would have to be restructured after his terrible season. Stan Burza will consider his options, one thing is certain, riding in lower league will allow him more rides that he had in Tarnow, so he has a lot of thinking to do. Hlib is uncertain, but letting him go right now would be bad from the business point of view. It was too large of an investment to let him go right now. Marcin Rempala, hmmm, here is the question mark. My feeling is that he will be gone. As far as new names few are being mentioned around. Rafal Szombierski from Rybnik is one of them. He is interesting in coming to Tarnow but he has a running contract there and Rybnik club wants to get too much from this. Next year he will be free to go anywhere and they will not get a penny so no wonder. Other name floating around is Tomek Chrzanowski. We will see how it goes. There are still some money issues being solved but I think in two weeks time we will know more or less what to expect next season.
dzikos
There are new rules for Ekstraliga 2007. There will still be 8 teams, but different play-offs. After 16 rounds the best team will ride with the sixth, 2-5 and 3-4. Winners will be in semifinals. The loser with the best result will be in semifinal too. Winners of semifinals will be in final Edited November 3, 2006 by dzikos
Rico
OMG It gets worse. Have the Polish authorities lost the plot over the winter ? Not impressed with any of the changes mooted so far, other than perhaps the reduction to 7 rider teams. Rico

Ok if local rivals ride against each other they may want to beat each other but other teams might agree to fiddle the result.

Having more or less liquidated their interests in UK speedway, the Russells may have secretly taken over in Poland.

Mateusz
And Torun are almost dead due to debts (800 000 PLN). Now it's almost certain they won't be given a licence to ride in Ekstraliga. It means being relegated to Division 1 or 2 (not sure). I'm from Bydgoszcz so my attitude to Torun is well known but it's a huge shame we're not gonna have the next battle of our holy war in 2007... Jagus to Bydgoszcz then...? If so, time to change a repertoir of our some songs slightly Edited November 6, 2006 by Mateusz

Mateusz
PePe's gone. Today he said he wouldn't be riding in Bydgoszcz next year. He gave some silly reasons but it's quite obvious Zielona Gora offered him more.. Anyway, on Monday when he had his last negotiations with the Bydgoszcz management everything seemed to be fixed and PePe was to sign the contract today. But eventually, despite it all he made a call saying goodbye. Don't like the way of his leaving but good luck to him wherever he lands. Needless to say the situation of Polonia Bydgoszcz is quite f*cked now The best man to fill this gap would be T.Gollob of course but his requirements are rather strange and connected with the political situation etc. in Bydgoszcz mostly... dzikos
Nicholls signed in Rzeszow, joining them from Tarnow. He's the second GP rider in Rzeszow after Nicki Pedersen.

Leliwa
To fill the void after Scott’s departure you mean? What viod? Last season he was only a back up to Tony, got more rides only after Tony's departure from speedway. We are filling void after Tony, supposedly with Rune, since he agreed to terms with us. And frankly speaking, after Nicholls' performance last season he will not be missed much in Tarnow.

tommy
Apart from Pepe there should be a couple more signings (not confirmed tho) announced by Zielona Gora tomorrow morning.

I'd say Holta burnt his bridges with Czestochowa just as effectively as he seems to have burnt his bridges with Marta Poltorak at Rzeszow. I'd have been surprised if Nicholls had remained with Tarnow. He really didn't pull up any trees last season on the rare occasions Tarnow utilised him.
