norbold
Just to let everyone know that work on the building has now started. The foundations are down and the structure is now being erected. It looks like being a reality at last!

Is there a planned date for opening at all? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I last spoke to George he said they were hoping for next spring. Edit** Sorry Norbold didn't see your posting. Liz !!!
Paradise Park is an excellent attraction in its own right, we visited there this summer and had a great day, the addition of the Speedway museum will make it a 'must visit' next time we are in the area next spring. the Park alone is a full day out and is one of the most well laid out animal parks in the country
Dave Stummings
Brilliant news. Well done to everyone involved, but especially George and Linda Barclay. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed. However a big thank-you should also go to Edinburgh, the only club who refused to allow a collection. Shame on you Edinburgh!

BobC
Interesting comment from Len Silver at Rye House last night. He made special mention and welcome to Mrs Brenda Craven, widow of the late great Peter. She had apparantly been in attendance at the Paradise Wildlife Park earlier in the day. Something to do with the footings of the new Speedway Museum?I didnt quite hear the full explanation,as we were chatting. Can anyone enlighten us further, please? norbold
Yes, Brenda Craven came down for a special (small) ceremony to officially mark the commencement of building. The logo for the Speedway Museum features Peter Craven.
star ghost
Well done to the team behind this almighty exercise. Of course it may be that Edinburgh will hold a collection next season? No reason why they shouldnt, this project will be ongoing for evermore? Mad Mitch
There may be a good reason why no collection has been made. I can think of a couple. Dont rememember a collection for the excellent "Cinders & Shale" Speedway Museum in Edinburgh in 10 years at Armadale ? We have collections every week, its for the riders fuel fund. We also have collections for Speedway riders Beneveolent Fund, the Ambulance service & maybe a 1 or 2 Ive forgot about. This year the Dale was attacked on two occasions by animal rights activists and I think there was a collection for that two. Its maybe thought that the fans have taken collection sickness !! norbold
I've just got back from a Speedway Museum Committee meeting and a visit to the Museum. The building is now finished apart from the doors. The interior fitting out will start in January. As well as a static exhibition showing the history of speedway from the 1920s to the present day, it is hoped to have interactive displays as well as providing the sounds and smell of speedway. Spring is still the target for opening.
