Guest Sir Lunchalot
Any news of Watto? Looks like a pretty good field so far. Lets hope yer a better announcer than the Wally they had at Wimborne Road for Tony R's Farewell. Tosser would be too polite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bryn is certainly one of the very best announcers. (Not sure about the other bloke though, he's a bit dodgy)

Guest Sir Lunchalot
Just back from the SSRAV meeting prior to the big day (which basically said the club has done all that is humanly possible and fingers crossed it all goes perfectly on the day) and the news is that Lee Herne is out of the line up and is replaced by Ty Platt. Looking forward to a great day and looking forward to catching up with ....... anyone who wants to talk to me !! I'll be the short ugly one with glasses talking cr*p into a microphone if anyone feels like rocking up and saying hi. All we need is the weather to behave and the track to be in great nick and we will be through to the semis without dropping a set. If that's the case if there is such a thing as speedway heaven I'm getting pretty close to it

Incidentally Brynbach, if you're reading this over Lunchy's shoulder, your old mates at Kings Lynn asked after you, worried you might fall into a vat of Bundy and try to drink your way out! Guest Sir Lunchalot
The news that we didn't want to hear Just issued by the club. It's forecast to be one of "those" days with oppressive heat and a strong northerly wind. Anyone who has lived in Australia for any length of time will know the weather I'm talking about. The fire danger rating has gone through the roof and Victoria is already experiencing major bushfires that are causing great concern. Courtesy of the SSRAV as below. I'll post more as I find out more. URGENT PRESS RELEASE ASH JONES MEMORIAL MEETING CANCELLED The SSRAV have just released a statement that due to extreme weather conditions forecast for Victoria over the weekend the meeting to be staged at the Broadford speedway on Saturday 9th December 2006 has been cancelled. This decision has not been made lightly and has been made with consultation with all relevant authorities. The SSRAV sincerely apologise for any inconvience this may cause and will endeavour to restage this event. Stay tuned for any further updates regarding this event. After all the hard work, etc..... Still, one of the things you don't mess with is Bushfire, personally remembering the Ash Wednesday Fires. Hopefully an alternative date can be found, the KL boys & girls were looking forward to this one. Down the Pub, then? Just turned around and this arrived: "Due to extreme weather warnings for the area (bushfire risk) the Lease Holders of the Broadford Motorcycle Complex in Victoria have postponed the Ashley Jones Memorial meeting set down for this Saturday (Dec 9). Ashley's father, Buck, was devastated by the news but says he will endeavour to find a suitable date for the meeting in the near future. Please pass this information on to as many people as possible, as a massive crowd was anticipated. Shortcrust
Very sad news but obviously the safety of everyone involved has to be a priority. Here's hoping another date can be found for this meeting and it can be re-staged real soon.
Guest Sir Lunchalot
Thats sad news, geez Lunchy you must be chomping at the bit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You bet I was !! We had a club meeting last Sunday and it was a good hit out for "the big one". I was down to share the commentary box duties with Bryn which I enjoy immensely, a class field lined up, some nice goodies lined up for raffles and give aways etc (and a big thank you to a few KL fans for their part in it, they know who they are), programs were looking good, Ivan Mauger due to put in an appearance. meeting due to be videoed (and hopefully get a guernsey on TV), and even a spot in the main Melbourne paper advertising it and now it's been denied to us. The Jones family must be wondering what else can go wrong. Still, public safety has to come first and those who have lived through a bad bushfire time know how scary and how bad it can be. When the hot northerly gets up it can push fires through the tree tops at 30 or 40 kmh and it makes a hell of a noise apparently. The complex where the track is located is in the middle of open bushland and if a fire started and hundreds of people were at the complex it would be bedlam trying to get out safely. There are already something like 30 fires burning in the state at the moment and depending which direction the wind blows they could go anywhere. Hopefully we will be able to sneak it into the season later on but with Christmas around the corner and then the Oz titles there aren't many free days available and that the riders will be available for. Fingers crossed the speedway gods smile upon us somehow.

If you've never lived through one you don't want to. Up here at the local Museum there's a room you can go in to hear the sound of Cyclone Tracy - a lot of locals can't handle hearing that again. the sound of a Bushfire is incomparable - a dozen steam engines coming at you - the smoke, the heat - its terrifying. Fingers crossed, Lunchy.
Trees
Awwwwwww very disappointing for all those involved, I do hope it can be staged at some point .............
Bryn
First opportunity I've had to post on the subject following the news of the call off as I've been out all day visiting Matt Jones of MJM Speedway Spares, his mum Lynne and sister Kylie. The Jones family have, over the years, extended their fabulous hospitality to a whole host of speedway riders, officials and fans whom I'm sure are every bit as grateful as myself. Now onto the call off of Saturday's meeting and whilst there really was no alternative given the current seriousness of the bushfire situation, you have to feel for the SSRAV and everyone involved who have put so much effort into organising the event and one can only hope that a suitable re-staging date can eventually be found. I was really looking forward to the meeting as, I'm sure, were a whole lot of folk. For those back in the UK though, trust me when I say having seen the news pictures earlier tonight of the bushfires, the situation is pretty serious indeed with something like 2000 firefighters deployed working around the clock in 12 hour shifts and the army has also been called in. So, another first for yours truly - a meeting called off not, as usual by rain as they are back in the UK, but by bushfire! Anyway a rapid change of plan is thus required, alas, by Lunchy and myself and so we've decided to nip up the mere 550 or so kilometres to Mildura on Saturday morning for the meeting there as, alas Pioneer Park in Queensland for Saturday's State Championship is a tad too far for Lunchy to drive - 2,000 miles PLUS he tells me from here in Melbourne!
