Main Man
The first Australian staging of the Ashley Jones Memorial Trophy will be on December 9th at Broadford and brother Mark (with a bit of help!!) is starting to ask the British based Aussies who can ride. At Swindon last Thursday I had an immediate positive reply from LEIGH ADAMS --- many thanks to Leigh. More news as riders confirm.

Guest Sir Lunchalot
Leigh was one of the riders that rode at Broadford in the Neil Street 50 year meeting in 2003 and apparently he and many others thought the track was great. Hopefully there will be more good news re the riding line up to follow. I actually have some pictures from the day still on the net if anyone wants to see Broadford (The photos are actually bigger than that but I can't work out how to enlarge them, I think yahoo changed the settings a while back) Now I know why Bryn is popping down to Victoria for that one !! Main Man
Talking to Mark on Weds I believe we can add the names of Travis McGowan, Cameron Woodward and the Herne brothers Lee and Jaye to the line-up. Jason Lyons is a possible as well depending on his schedule when he gets back home with his preperations for his testimonial at the end of January at Mildura ---more names as they are added. Guest Sir Lunchalot
Very very unofficial and only via word of mouth but today at Broadford I was talking to someone who suggested they may have to go to 24 rider field to fit everyone in has expressed a verbal interest in riding. I don't know names but a few English riders are included in the interested list I'm told. Of course being interested and actually having confirmed riders aren't the same thing but it all sounds promising. Glad Lee Herne could make it as he was the rider immediately behind Ashley when the accident happened and nice to see him nominating. Should I start to get excited yet ? I remember for the Neil Street meeting about four years ago the guy who does the videoing in Adelaide came over and did that meeting, whether he will be doing the same this time I can't be sure. I'll try and find out next meeting if anyone knows.

Guest Sir Lunchalot
More details announced at Broadford today re the Ashley Jones meeting. The four riders from the Ivan Mauger Golden Helmet series will now also be taking part, namely Ben Wilson (Eng), Andrew Aldridge (NZ), Filip Sitera (Czech), and Adam Vandirek (Czech). The format looks like being a 24 rider field with it being spilt into two groups of 12. Each rider to have 4 rides, then the top 4 from each group through to two semi finals, winner from each of the semi finals through to the final with two to join them from a repecharge final featuring 2nd and 3rd from each of the semi finals. (At least that's what I think I was told, all that detail given to someone with a short attention span is dangerous !!)
Guest Sir Lunchalot
Latest news is that Ivan Mauger will be in attendance and riding a few demonstration laps on a Jawa laydown. Probably one of the few chances people from down south will get to see Ivan on a bike again so all roads should point to Broadford come 9th December !! All we need now is the weather to behave (and the plumber to finish the new toilet & shower block in time would be nice too).

I got to see him do 4 flying laps at Exeters end of an era meeting and it was stunnig to see this 60+ old geezer ripping around with so much disregard for his health He certainly doesn't take it easy!! Bryn
where will we be able to buy this dvd mate <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll get details and post them. Meanwhile yours truly has now made his way down to Melbourne from Queensland - bit colder down here I've got to say - might even have to go out and by a sweater as I'm allergic to cold although it's going to be 36 degs tomorrow, and I'm already looking forward to the meeting which is less than a fortnight away now on Saturday 9th. Confirmed riders I'm told are Leigh Adams, Chris Holder, Cameron Woodward, Mark Jones, Travis McGowan, Kevin Doolan, Cory Gathercole, Karlis Ezergailis, Arlo Bugeja, Jason Doyle, Filip Sitera, Adam Vandirek , Ben Wilson, Andrew Aldridge and more to follow. Admission will be $15 for 15yrs & over, Under 15's - Free. Gates open at Noon; Practice 1pm, Racing starts 2pm at Broadford Speedway, State Motorcycle Complex, Straths Creek Road, Broadford. For those who don't know, Broadford is situated approx 72km North of Melbourne GPO, and approx 5 km East of the Broadford Township. Further info will no doubt be available at the SSRAV website at: www.ssrav.org.au Looking forward to seeing a great meeting and, hopefully a good crowd to pay tribute to the memory of the rider who so tragically lost his life over a year ago now with myself & Lunchy commentating.
