Main Man
great to meet up with some old friends and see some old faces last night. Broady's time as a Stoke Potter when I got to know him was marked with some of his his Loomer Road team mates joining him in Mick Handley, Steve "Eccles" Holden, Bryan Woodward, Barry Duke and Cyril Francis . Pity the rain intervened but I was glad I could make it after being at the Luke Priest Golf Fund Raising Day near Newport and have the chance of having a few moments chat with Mike. Seb the Snail
First chance that I have had to comment... Above all, Broady looked to be having a ball, so the fact that the rain deprived us of the last 4 heats and "grand final" didn't matter too much. I only hope that Kylie Adams hadn't already spent the £1,000 prize money! As expected, the racing was entertaining rather than competitive, but the 2 heat victories for Karger in particular went down a storm. For the Aussies, Holder looked at home on the circuit, with the only disappointment being the fleeting appearance from Tai Woffinden. After all the rave reviews in the media, he was the one Aussie that I was looking forward to watching. Finally, credit to Ian Thomas and Richard Hall for their respective roles in the night's proceedings. Thomas donated £500 to the cause as compensation for taking away the services of Ryan Sullivan to ride for the Aces at the last moment, and Hall drove all the way down from Sheffield at the 11th hour to answer the SOS call for an "Aussie" rider. Good on you both.
Main Man
Yes poor old Tai --blew one motor up then seized another on the stand warming it up. An expensive night for him and his dad!! And yes Hally is now an honouary Aussie (no free Fosters though !!) With Tai out for the night Chris Holder was in for a busy one and with no mechanic with brother James heading for home that night I ended up getting my hand dirty helping him with the Aussie boys chipping in to help as well.
