German Grand Prix 2007?

Recommended Posts

Hope the rumours of a return to Germany for the Grand Prix championship in 2007 prove to be correct. Ive always thought Germany should be an automatic choice for a GP as it has one of the biggest bikesport followings in Europe and speedway has a long tradition there with some very loyal supporters.

If the Auf Schalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen is the venue we will see speedway staged in possibly Europe's finest stadium :D

Here's hoping B.S.I confirm it soon and we can start booking our trip!!!! :)

I think the crowd will be the biggest problem so i think a GP at Landshut or Pocking on a permanent Speedway track would be a much better choice than the Arena auf Schalke. I realy would love to see a GP back at Germany... If it's now on a permanent track or in a big Stadium....

It'll be great to have a German GP. Theres a few up and coming Germans coming through atm which would help get a decent home crowd.

This should replace one of the Polish GP's though...

Talking to a couple of german speedway fans at the weekend and first they said that there isn't a rider ready yet for a GP.Second Gelsenkirchen isn't really in "speedway country".They were thinking the crowd there would be poor.Obviously coming from the north they might be a bit biased but there opinion is that it should be held here. The south is more longtrack country and the crowds are not too good.Plus here in the north it is close to Sweden,Denmark,Poland..where the crowds are.Their opinion was Norden for the GP

Replace one of the swedish ones whose crowds will soon start to fall with no world champion. I hope Andreas proves us wrong.

:o

Do you think he could still do it? B)

A wonderfully gifted rider, albeit a little Gollobesque in demonstrating said gifts - it all came together for him on that day in Norden. He had a rocket-machine GM (first GM world champion, I believe) powering him and seemingly final say in track preparation. Maybe if the one-off world finals had still been around it would all have come together for Gollob on a given day in Poland. We'll never know.

Still, I had a bit of time for Muller - went all the way down to Newcastle to see the new champion in a match race series against Newcastle's mighty NL heatleader trio of Beaton, Hunter and the incomparible Joe Owen. But he'd injured himself at Exeter (?) and could only manage a half-hearted effort against Beaton.
