Joanne
I have received an email from Ryanair, it goes something like this. HAND BAGGAGE RESTRICTIONS – FLIGHTS FROM THE UK, POLAND, FRANCE & ITALY > > Please see below for the new hand baggage restrictions for flights from > the UK, Poland (to the UK), France & Italy (to the UK) > > Hand Baggage Allowance (10kg per person) > > Each passenger is permitted to carry ONE item of hand baggage up to 10kg > (bag dimensions have been reduced for all flights departing from the UK). > If you are departing from a UK airport and in accordance with the UK > Department for Transport, the following reduced cabin baggage dimensions > apply - 45cm (length), 35cm (width) and 16cm (depth). These dimensions > include the wheels, handles, side pockets, etc. > Passengers who arrive at a UK airport with hand baggage exceeding the > above dimensions will be required to pay an additional checked bag fee or > if they are over the maximum 20kg baggage allowance per person, an excess > baggage fee will be charged of £5.50/€8 per kilo (or local currency > equivalent). > > General Information on Checked Baggage Allowances > > A checked baggage allowance of 20kg per passenger applies to each customer > who has paid a checked bag fee. Any passenger checking in baggage > exceeding their checked baggage allowance of 20kg per person will be > charged an excess baggage fee of £5.50/€8 per kilo (or local currency > equivalent). > Passengers may not use the unused checked baggage allowance of other > passengers. No pooling/sharing of the checked baggage allowance is > permitted, even within a party travelling on the same Confirmation Number. And this is on their website A Baggage Fee is charged for the carriage of each item of Checked Baggage. The Baggage Fee may be prepaid at the current discounted rate of £3.50/€4.50 per item of baggage/per one way flight when making your reservation. If the Baggage Fee is paid at the airport or through our reservations centre, the full rate of £7/€10 per item of baggage/per one way flight is charged. Baby buggies, wheelchairs, scooters and walking frames are carried free of charge. The Checked Baggage allowance is 20kg per person (15kg per person for all passengers travelling from the 1st November 2006 onwards). There is no baggage allowance for infants, although a pram/buggy will be carried free of charge. Each Passenger may check-in up to five items of checked baggage, up to the checked baggage allowance per person (a Baggage Fee is charged for each item of checked baggage). For health and safety reasons Ryanair will not accept any individual item exceeding 32 kilos and with combined dimensions of more than 81cms height, 119cms wide and 119cms depth. This weight limit does not apply to mobility equipment. Does that mean that I will have to pay £7 each for Atron 5000 and myself each way for a case each under 20kg. Seems a bit steep, or am I reading it wrong?
Heathcote
No I am afraid your reading it correctly
Joanne
That's disgusting. It's not as if you can shuff all your clothes in your hand baggage as you are only allowed laptop size bags on the plane. I feel sorry for people like my parents who fly down from Scotland on Ryanair and then catch a different Ryanair flight abroad. It will cost them a fortune. Now I have to convince Atron 5000 to cut down on all her Goth clothes (she'll kill me if she sees this) and put them in with my boring fleeces

Joanne
Size restrictions a bit bigger. But you must take your toiletries in your case which means you will still have to take a case. Unless of course you buy it there. Thanks Gary, getting my tape measure out Edited September 21, 2006 by Joanne
