SCOOBYDO
Hello everyone, Please be patient with me as this is my first post and I would like to get everyone's thoughts regarding a 'Eve of Cardiff GP' Speedway Party 2007. As yet I have not experienced a GP at Cardiff as I currently live overseas but this will change next year. I have been asked by a number of people to organise a 'Party' for the Friday night before next year's GP in Cardiff. This will involve me hiring a venue in Cardiff (probably a late bar) for speedway fans, riders etc etc Can everyone please let me have your thoughts regarding this, positive or negative. Thanks
SuzieQ
Your idea is a good one, for the past couple of years, most seem to have met up in The Walkabout, but I am sure if you came up with a venue it would be packed!

SCB
Some of us are usually at newport on the friday Yes, in fairness, you can be out in Cardiff getting drunk or at Newport Speedway watching Newport lose. God knows why anyone would stay in Cardiff TBH, i can't see the point of anything properly organised. We all have a good enough time meeting who we want on the Friday, meeting up the forum lot on the Saturday adn then watching the GP with whoever we want (some of us watched it with half the stadium last year and every time I went back to somewhere I had already been, I had a different person with me Made me look popular) and then on the saturday night we all make arrangments to meet other people and go off and drink/eat and generally be merry

Pinstripe
Wont be doing nothing other than getting totally hammered on the Friday night watching Newport then probs heading into town with my mates after it. Mind you may be drunk enough on the FRiday anyway without going into town, I am sure SCB will tell you how plastered me and Robbo were on the Friday night this year

Infact, very few us "us" managed to make it to the train station at the arranged time the next day (even I was late and I was the first one there ) Edited September 21, 2006 by SCB
Pinstripe
I didnt get outta bed til gone mid day - hungover was an understatement! Hence why I only drunk about 5 pints all day of the GP!!!
cwf
As I said I have never been but the idea of an organised event would be a good idea for future years !!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi SCOOBYDO - i think its a really good idea. Cardiff has a great carnival atmosphere for the Friday and Saturday of the GP. There are thousands of fans in the city on a Friday night, many of whom dont know the city too well. An organised pre-GP event would go down really well especially if it involved riders past and present. If you needed any publicity for it im sure the Planet speedway radio prog. would only be too happy to help. Better still get them to do a live broadcast from the party itself! SCOOBYDO
I have received loads of interest regarding an organised event at meetings I have attended whilst back in the UK. I have been in touch with a number of venues in Cardiff, one being the Hard Rock Cafe. Anyone been there? They have told me that they can organise the following for £40 per person. Red carpet treatment on entry to the cafe Drinks reception-Champaigne or cocktail on arrival Buffet consisting of mini burgers, mini spring rolls, potato skins, chicken wings etc etc !! Voucher bar - Each person would receive 5 drinks vouchers that they could redeem at the bar for a drink of their choice (excluding cocktails) DJ until 2am close They have also said they would organise a display of a speedway bike on the forecourt. DVD's of past Speedway GPs etc etc The ticket price could be done cheaper without the drinks vouchers but I thought an 'all-in' ticket would be better. What does everyone think? madame muck
A group of us went to the Hard Rock Cafe, for a meal b4 the gp this year. Thought it was a very nice, but its not that big inside the place!
tiny
they never are. i always eat in manchesters when m mam is here. most people are in walkabout tho with the riders so i think most people will think £40 to be with fans or £0 to be with speedway riders and even some gp riders Edited October 17, 2006 by tiny
Gemini
potato skins..... I'm sure SCB will be interested in buying a ticket after spending £32 on some recently.
SCB
mmmmmm. Are they mixed in with the mashed potato? I'm actually starting to think this might not be a bad idea. Though I do think somewhere a bit more up market would be better, sort of suit/posh clothes style. (especially if we're talking £40!!!!!!!!) SCOOBYDO
Just a quick update regarding where I am with organising an event next year. Hard Rock Cafe have been back in touch and said they are willing to negotiate on the cost per person. I have said that I would be looking around the £25 per person mark. As soon as I get full details of what we get for £25 I will post them. What are everyone's thought on an event at the Hard Rock Cafe where they are able to accomodate approx. 400 people, or would everyone prefer a 'posh do' as was mentioned in an earlier post? I have never been to Cardiff for a GP and so I would appreciate input from everyone that has.
