Subedei
It hardly means the same as the Champions League in football - in fact, it's a bit of a joke. But Tarnow were crowned European champions this evening. And here's how they did it: http://www.przegladzuzlowy.pl/news_index.php?id=1089888679 A full house for Tomasz Gollob, with good support from Kolodziej and Wroclaw's Hans Andersen. Interesting to note that following last year's horror crash involving Sergey Darkin, the contest seems to have been reduced to four teams and four man races. Altogther far more sensible, in my view. cwf
Any idea how these teams came to contest this final? Were any British clubs involved in the qualifying (assuming there were any qualifying rounds)
Kevin Meynell
Any idea how these teams came to contest this final? There were two semi-finals featuring representative club sides from Hungary, Russia, Slovenia, Croatia, Latvia, Germany, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. The Polish team was seeded to the Final. It should be noted that five of these countries don't have team competitions, so the term "Club Champions' Cup" is a bit of misnomer. The major leagues in Britain, Sweden and Denmark don't participate.
Subedei
And it's a bit of a "free-for-all" when it comes to riders for the final, with the Russian side usually drafting in expensive overseas riders for the event. Last season, Unia Tarnow didn't even bother sending a "proper" side to Russia for the meeting - no Gollobs, no Kolodziej, no Rickardsson, just a few juniors and Stanislaw Burza and Robert Wardzala. Obviously with the final being held in Tarnow this season, they took it a bit more seriously.

Guest PanthersChamp06
Wish next season they do this, with the Champions of Sweden,Poland,UK and another. I know you might get riders that are contracted to 2-3 teams but it would be a very good event to watch.

TwoMinuteWarning
Interesting to see that Leigh Adams and Nicki Pedersen rode for Togliatti in this competition, despite never having ridden for them before. BUT today, they again rode for Togliatti in a top of the table Russian League match against their great rivals Oktyabrsky. Togliatti won and went two points clear at the top of the league. Adams scored 13+1 (5 rides), beaten only by Chrzanowski. Nicki P scored 11 (5) including an ef.
