robpeasley
What a sensational GP debut for young Lubos tonight. Only one of his four points was gifted, the others were hard earned. Luobs beat Andreas Jonsson, the winner of the previous GP, and ulimately cost Jonsson a place in the semis. And beat Niels-Kristian Iversen on a night where Iversen reached the semis and had his best GP of the season. It does make you wonder had Lubos been selected as the wildcard tonight and not a reserve, whether he could have made the semis... And now officially the 20th best rider in the world!! Well done Lubos!! All the best Rob
21st century heathen
Make the semi's? Hmmm I think you're getting a bit over-excited now Rob. He's not 20th in the world because his points in the standings don't mean jack. He did ride very well though.
robpeasley
21st Century Heathen, That was something else Millard got wrong tonight. Look at the graphics produced by BSI and Lubos's 4 points DID count. He was listed as 20th in the World Championship standings at the end of the evening!! 21st century heathen
All the wild cards and reserves have their points displayed in the table but I was under the impression that only the full time GP riders have official placings. If I'm wrong I apologise.
robpeasley
21st Century Heathen, It's a slightly strange situation, but as I understand it, the wildcards and reserves do get official placings in this year's series, but they DON'T count towards for qualification for next year's series. For instance, Hans Andersen could now easliy go now to finish second in this year's series. If he does this, then he will get the World Championship silver medal. However, if he was not one of the original 15 riders, this would not have guaranteed his place in next year's competition. (He's now qualified for the 2007 series another way, but finishing third in the qualifying final). It's similar to 1999, when Mark Loram finished fifth in the world, but had he not qualified via the 1999 GP Challenge, he would not have been in the 2000 GP series. Steve Turner
Sorry Rob, track reserves points definitely do not count in the overall standings. Wildcards and FIM reserves points DO count, however.
robpeasley
Steve, Who produces the graphics for the GPs? If it's BSI, then Lubos Tomicek is showing with 4 GP points in 20th position. All the best Rob
Steve Turner
I don't know Rob, but I doubt BSI have anything to do with it to be honest. I'm only telling you the FIM pre-tournament rules on the scoring system. Worth noting though, the BSI website scorecard
robpeasley
Steve, Now that makes things very confusing indeed. Bjerre and Gjedde are credited with their track reserve points from Denmark (1 each), yet Lubos is not credited with his 4 points from tonight. Steve Turner
As I said, I quoted the pre-season rule...then showed you the weird set-up from within What do you want ? Consistency ?! As you go to sleep tonight, Rob...imagine Lubos is World No.
21st century heathen
Of course he's only 20th until another reserve outscores him.
robpeasley
21st Century Heathen, I can't see any Lativians scoring many points in the next round (who's the wildcard - Custard Gadzooks who rode for Oxford at the start of last year?), so it's likely to be only the Polish wildcard from the final round who has a chance of passing him. So Lubos will finish 20th or 21st - even if it's unofficially (the BSI website still seems to be confused whether track reserve points count!!!). salty
Regardless of whether his points count or not, it was a creditable performance. After the recent loss of Toni Kasper and the debilitating injuries that have stalled the potential of the Dryml brothers, Czech Speedway needs a shot in the arm and it would be good to see Tomicek or Simota(or anyone) make a breakthrough in the next couple of years. All the best Rob <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Puodzuks will probably not be far off the pace and will probably pick up some points if he is the wild card. He was only so bad for Oxford because of the s**t bike we had him riding. Funnily enough, interesting to see that Kroner is perfectly able to hold his own in the Elite League now he's on decent machinery. As for the wild card, I would assume it will be Jagus. Triple.H.
According to the site daugavpils.lv Kjastas Poudhuks is in for the GP,also i remember reading somewhere that the track has a big home advantage.
Tsunami
Many congrats to Lubos for his heroic efforts last night. He was my star of the night. Anybody notice he raised his arm after the last race and then tried dismally to get the bike up. Nevermind Lubos, next time. After the meeting he said "I smile", now that's progress. Newcastle and Oxford were well represented last night and Lubus knew he had some great support.
