Those of us with long memories will know that speedway was ousted from Wembley due to the FA signing an exclusive agreement. Therefore, presumably, they don't want us there, and as far as I am concerned the feeling is mutual.
Jhy
No what i was sayin was could he track be a permanent fixture seeing as everything else is leaving mayb a few meetings
AndyM
Don't suppose it will ever be Wembley since the rent will be too high, but neither do I think any fixture is permanent. Speedway's fortunes and those of the Millennium stadium could wax or wane and make long-term arrangements unsustainable. And just because it's been enjoyable in the past doesn't mean it will continue to be. The location is still far from perfect and if the chance to return to London ever did come I suspect there are many in the FIM, BSI and BSPA who would jump at the prospect. RobMcCaffery
No what i was sayin was could he track be a permanent fixture seeing as everything else is leaving mayb a few meetings <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is still first and foremost a Rugby stadium so there is no way in which a permanent speedway track would be constructed. It's also far too large and expensive to run any other kind of meeting there than a one-off grand prix each year. English football may be leaving but certainly not rugby. It will still be the national stadium for Welsh rugby and football. Edited August 15, 2006 by rmc
sjw ministerofport
I thought that the grass for Cardiff was taken out of the stadium to grow, it's a pity a permenent speedway track base could not be constructed underneath. As for Wembley, I for one am happy with Cardiff. I would hate to think what the costs of tickets would be if it was run at Wembley
shazzybird
Think Speedway have it contracted up to 2012 or something like that anyway.
SCB
No what i was sayin was could he track be a permanent fixture seeing as everything else is leaving mayb a few meetingsI can't see the WELSH Rugby union being too happy with having to play home matches in England!! The millenium Stadium is primarily a rugby stadium. It also has football (even if you English dont want to sue it, us Welsh will), rallying, music concerts, moto-x, speedway and other shows and events (eg "The wedding show" Speedway is one of many, many event and lossing half a dozen English football matches doesn't suddenyl make the stadium redundent! Beleive it or not, we did not build the stadium for youe English to play half a dozen football matches at each year! sjw ministerofport
I never thought of that SCB, but what I can't understand is why we don't build a stadium like Cardiff in the Midlands. If Brum built one with the city night life and great bars in the day, they could make it pay like Cardiff.
south coast robin
The Millenium is an excellent venue for the Grand Prix

If only it was that simple eh?! "Make it pay", did you know this was the first year the WRU have made money on the stadium!?
sjw ministerofport
I'm Amazed, but the city do well I would have thought
SCB
I bet I think part of the only just making money is due to the fact they've had some quite heavy debts and have recent paid them off, so it's not as plain and simple as it may seem. AmberCelt
. The location is still far from perfect Right in the city centre, next to the railway and bus stations, guaranteed no rain off -if only all locations were this far from perfect!!! AndyM
Compare the distance and ease of access to Cardiff and to London for most fans. Cardiff is out in the sticks and always will be. For that matter, I'd be delighted if the GP were to be held in Manchester, but I know that the rightful home of our main event should always be London if we want an international following. SCB
Edinburgh to Cardiff or Edinburgh to London (Wembley)? Coventry to Cardiff or Coventry to London(Wembley)? Would you believe there's less than 30 miles in it from Coventry and less than 10 miles in it from Edinburgh and amazingly, to us fans in Newport there's actually about 90 miles in it to the good! It really does depend where people are coming from as to how far out of the way it is but from pretty central Coventry it's not a long way out. Wales is not the other side of the Earth, it's actually quite accessable and NOT "out in the sticks". How many times have you come to Wales? You probably think we all say yakki-dah and our little back roads are taken over by sheep. News for you, it aint like that! Derwent
What speedway needs to do is something like this..... http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague/ne...YL_Cardiff.html You have the local council and the national tourist board offering £500k for a sport to come and stage a weekend event. Why couldn't speedway do something similar, would an Elite League Weekend be popular ?
Mylor
Right in the city centre, next to the railway and bus stations, guaranteed no rain off -if only all locations were this far from perfect!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But Cardiff does need more reasonable cost accommodation within walking distance of the city centre and a central booking website........... put in your criteria and up pops a choice of online bookable AVAILABLE accommodation. Cardiff IS a pain if you have to get there and back in a day so we like to stop over Friday and Saturday nights. Expensive, yes, but really worthwhile when the sun shines, as it always does. So much less hassle and a few hours in Cardiff Bay on a Sunday morning sets you up for the journey home. Cardiff is a brilliant place to spend some time. I just wish the local tourist board or someone would make it easy for us to spend more money with the local traders and not fortunes on hotel rooms 5 miles away.
