bananas
Haven't seen the incident, and I don't particularly like either rider so I won't comment. I've still got the GP taped on Sky so I'll watch it when I get chance (busy getting ready for my hols!!!) and then give an unbiased opinion. But really, the situation between the 2 of them needs curbing before someone really gets hurt (As long as it's not Jason....!!!! Jokin!! )
Ron Butler
I am rather concerned about the 'professionaL foul' being used by numerous riders at the moment. 'If I get close enough to him and go down, the ref will probably exclude him'. In my mind thats not fair racing, almost like a football dive. It seems to be being used a lot in the GP and I'm not impressed. If the rider is good enough he doesn't need to use those tactics. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree wholeheartedly. Any rider who resorts to this type of tactic should be punished beyond being escluded from one heat of the meeting. Isn't there a well known offence elsewhere described as 'bringing the sport into disrepute' which can incur a heavy penalty? Perhaps there's a case for apllying it to speedway, at all levels, before the thing gets out of hand Xenophobia of Patriotism? I would consider that, as a former representative of his country, Mr Tatum has every right to be patriotic. His wearing of the union flag on his race jacket, has probably made him more so. If anything, British people are not patriotic enough. With club loyalties, speedway enhances this situation. As for 'clearly bumped a number of times'. Yes, but barging back and, neither lead to Hans' fall on the corner. It was like of bike control on a tricky track. And bike control usually comes from brain control. 'Shocking language' yes but c'mon, this is a 'man's sport' and, unlike Hans in the SWC, there was no kicking and ranting going on. Maybe speedway should introduce a yellow card for diving. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We all have the right, some would say the responsibility, to be patriotic. Where should we direct our patriotism though to Britain or to the European Community? Since its inception in Britain speedway has been a family sport and now that it is regulary televised all riders should be constantly aware of this and should refrain from swearing when there are cameras and microphones in the vicinity. Do you think these men use foul language in the presence of their own wives and children. I greatly doubt it, therefore they should extend the same courteous conduct to other families and individuals. I thought it was a great piece of quick thinking by whoever put Scott's cap on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you feel sorry for the lad? He obviously didn't know whether he was coming or going! Anyway there are those who would say that it's high time a cap was put on Mr Asbo
ezekiel
QUOTE(ezekiel @ Aug 13 2006, 07:55 AM) Time to give my verdit on the Hans vs Nicholls incident. Even though I'm slightly biased towards Hans I really can't decide who was at fault! Nicholls gave Hans a nudge, Hans was leaning over Nicholls on the straight, Nicholls appeared to give Hans the slightest of nudges just before he fell, but I wouldn't say it would be enough to see Hans go over. So. Ezekiel, what is your verdict? Jury rooms are not furnished with fences!........ What some people are forgetting are the conditions. If the conditions had been better then I don't think Hans would have slid off. I think Nicholls was unlucky, very unlucky, as the ref's decision could have gone either way... * ...........and neither are referees' boxes. The man had to decide one way or t'other. He was bound to upset some and please others. I still haven't decided...!
Subedei
Just as well you're not the referee then. Six days is a long time to wait for the re-run to take place.
