The final greyhound meeting at Harringay was held on 25 September 1987 after which the stadium closed.

Yes - I knew it was quite a lot later than '79 as I moved to the area in 1982 and it was open then. And of course the Greyhound Derby transferred there (for just one year as it turned out..) after White City's demise.

Sobering to think that White City & Harringay were disposed of in such rapid succession.

Who's to say this sort of culling by the GRA isn't about to happen again. Catford gone; Plough Lane teetering on the brink..: what's the future for Oxford & Belle Vue, I wonder..??!!

And norbold..: was it Harringay then in 'TLGF'..??

Me and my mucker Frank raced over to Green Lanes after the Hackney meeting the night Harringay closed and saw the last few dog races. I have still got the losing Tote tickets from the last race, the Tote equipment was the old trusty dead man's handle that moved from one trap number to another with a tortured clanking sound. None of this soulless computerised rubbish that we have now. It was definitely Harringay in the Long Good Friday, I would recognise that unique Tote board anywhere. Last year when I was shopping in Sainsbury's (I should be shot for treason) I asked what had happened to the mementoes that were on display on the wall, commemorating the reunion day that the Friends of Speedway staged around 5, 6 or maybe more years ago, the manager's answer was, "They must have got lost during renovations." Obviously he didn't give a damn where they were, extremely sad that the tribute to Harringay Speedway has probably ended up in the dustbin. To this day I swear that I saw Lord Lucan on the fire escape stairs under the main stand.

I've got a vague recollection of reading something in the Speed Star some years ago of a film being shot at the old Catford dog track,I think that Briggo may have been involved in it,but I certainly wouldn't swear to it.Whether this is the film you mention I don't know for sure, perhaps someone else can throw more light on this.

It was filmed at Catford apparently and according to Speedwayplus they rode on the dog track

Isn't this one of the MOST extraordinary things..?? Why did they go to such elaborate efforts to stage Speedway in a venue that sadly never really staged it when they could so much more easily have used a track in an existing stadium??!

But wouldn't it have been great (and unique) to have been at dear old Catford dog track as crowd extra when they filmed it..??

I wonder, is there anyone out there in BSF land who was..???!!!
