Gp Qualifying Points For Next Year Etc

Recommended Posts

Personally, I thought they should of shaken it up a bit more.

I would like to see max of top 6 qualify for next years event.

No wildcards as they don't bring anything to the overall picture-if Hans Andersen can muster up enough points to be in the top 8 with riding only 3 GPs then he should be in or whats the point??

Under 21 champion to replace wildcard, or if already in it 2nd place.

If tapes touched-no reserve but rider starts 15 metres back

Rest of qualification made up of GP challenge and meeting(s) involving bottom 10 finishers. Obviously finals for GP qualification would be run after current GP round finishes

This would work with say country qualifiers to GP challenge as they are this year but say have 2 finals with bottom 10 split into the finals vying for 8 places over all. The bottom 10 not in the GP challenge would join the challenge in the finals by way of being in this years GP.

That leaves one place and this could be a nominated rider from each federation and a BSI/FIM jury deciding who would best be suited for the place. i.e. a rider who finished 7th in GP and missed GP challenge through injury but has demonstrated high averages in league racing etc.

a thought for this year though, if tony rikardsson finishes in the top 8 this year then how bout only the top 7 other riders qualify and the BSI/FIM have the balls to give an extra place to either Mark Loram or Hans Andersson next year??

In a nutshell

top 6 qualify outright

1 place for under 21 champ or second place if already qualified

8 places from GP challenge and bottom 10 GP placings culminating in 2 finals and top 4 from each final going through

1 rider nominated for special reasons

=16 riders

No wildcards and permanent young reserves that follow GP around and get GP meeting experience

anyway over to you lot for thoughts and ideas.

ta

Robin

p.s. BSI/FIM * PATENT PENDING * PATENT PENDING * PATENT PENDING * PATENT PENDING * PATENT PENDING * PATENT PENDING :D

Can't happen, next years qualifying criteria is already in place.

However, we already have wildcards so BSI could nominate Mark or Hans if they wanted to anyway and why would they want to nominate Mark anyway? His GP days are long gone IMO.

As I have said many times before the original GP challenge meeting was the fairest method of selecting the qualifiers for each following year's GP series.

If say the top 8 were reinvited, 7 could come from a meeting involving the rest plus 9 that had successfully come through the World Championship qualifiers. If the GP Challenge's top 6 then joined up this would leave a place for the Under 21 champion who I agree should be invited. Jason Crump started his GP career in such a manner I think.

Personally I think places should be offered to each of the top speedway nations national champions first and then the remaining places offered to the others finishing in the top 8 and the remaining places going to the Under 21 Champ and to those doing best in the GP Challenge.

the current situation is a nightmare.....after all how many new riders are there year on year (very few) as the current system is set to maintain their places.

I'd go for

Top 6 as a right

1 U21 champion

1 nominated rider (for local interest)

the other 8 from the challenge.

Challenge field made up of

10 current GP riders

6 nominations from federations

16 qualifiers via rounds

2 semi's - to get 16 for challenge.

That way the young up and coming riders have a chance of getting their by their own efforts and not via the politics route.

My plan for speedway to become the world's #1 sport :D

The top 4 should qualify automatically

BSI have one wild card per GP to ensure their finances

and two permanent wildcards to cover injuries

.............the rest have to qualify!

Qualification rounds should be far more extensive as per years gone by with potentially ALL riders able to have a crack ...........so for GB i'd have a scenario of

Round 1

Top 32 CL riders battle out over two qualifiers for 8 places in round 2

Round 2

PL enter.......4 rounds involving 64 riders with 16 riders going through to round 3

Round 3

EL riders join the fray.....32 riders with 16 going to GB final

GB Final

this would make it 9 meetings instead of the current 3 from the British side of things but I believe that these meetings would gain decent crowds.......and realistically for the riders involved it is 2 meetings max

after this point I feel that there should be more qualifiers and semi's before the GP qualifying final as it is still resembling an Elite invite only competition.....so hopefully 6-8 go through from each country (or at least the top ranked ones)

so 9 qualifiers go through to the GP's

BUT......................I would also allow the option of BSI replacing the bottom four ranked riders midway through the season ......controversial but necessary.........................imagine if Pepe, NKI, Lee Richardson and Scott were up for the chop and BSI decided to put in Hans, PK and Rune Holta while retaining Scott (because he is on the pace).......................this would stop the inevitable results which are going to come from the strugglers while at the same time give the competition a shot in the arm.........harsh but wise

as far as U21 stuff goes perhaps the champion can be seeded to GP qualifier final or semi

all this I think would give some credibility back to the competition while keeping the same GP format

I thought last nights GP was a case in point for getting rid of the wildcards. It's ok if you have a top drawer rider but either the nations concerned i.e. Italy last night havent got a rider capable of riding in the GP or if it is one of the others i.e. Denmark/Sweden etc their top riders are in it anyway.

Hans Andersen should probably of been in it anyway so it don't really count. And talking of Hans-if Tony Rickardsson is going to pull out altogether then Hans points (if he gains enough and finishes in the top 8) should count for next year. Personally the bloke is a bit of a plonker, however he is a fantastic speedway rider and the competition is all the richer for him being in it, even if its for the needle value of Crump, Nicholls and the rest trying to knock him off :D

How about each country that qualified for the World Cup Final and Race Off be entitled to have their National Champions represent them in the following year's GP series.

All non national champions that finished in the top 8 in the GP also to be reinvited by right.

The World under 21 champion only to be invited if he does not come into either of the above catagories.

All remaining places to be filled by the winners of a GP Challenge Final
