21st century heathen
He certainly can be very fast indeed. The biggest problem Scott has seems to be his head. He's always seemed to be the one to miss out when it really matters. He's not he first, and won't be the last, very talented rider to not quite put it all together on the world stage. He still has time to make the most of his talent and speed, but the clock is beginning to tick. Back to the thread subject, and yes he moves. So does virtually ever other rider. Personally I'd like to see a return to the touch but don't break them rule. If you get caught going backwards then tough. If you make a flyer good on ya. Billy has been a master of the roller for years. I've seen many many races when he's had the back wheel spinning slowly, but with no forward momentum. That means he hasn't moved so no exclusion, but it also means the bike is ready to fire out the start.
Guest
Its up to the referee's to stop the rolling starts. If their not competent enough to notice rolling then thats not Crumpies fault. Loads of riders do it and will continue to do it unless its clamped down on. Blame the Ref, not the riders!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Totally agree. What do the Ref's find so difficult about enforcing this ?
newbieoldboy
I've seen Lindback do the same though Stevie boy! The absolute best for this was Billy Hamill - <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think you may find its Boycie. But how anyone can pick out one person in the SWC for rolling I don't understand I don't think I saw one start in all four matches where someone wasn't rolling but then I'm not trying to score silly "points" over the "hated opposition"
DanTheMan
its all about having the correct mental approach, which jason has had for the past few seasons, this year he also has huge confidence, which with each race win, builds abd builds, just like tony had last season
G the Bee
I think the whole issue with rolling comes down to a number of factors with the main ones being poor refereeing and TV schedules, with referees reluctant to call races back too much in case the meeting runs over time. You will often hear riders saying: "My clutch dragged me towards the tapes" or "I rolled down the rut I was using towards the tapes". To me, the only solution is zero tolerance. If a rider rolls and the race is called back for an unsatisfactory start the rider should be hit with a significant fine. Same if a rider touches or breaks the tapes. I reckon that if you were to give it a few months and a few high profile fines you will be amazed at how still riders will be at the tapes! By the way Lupus, I don't think Billy has forgotten how to start. I just think he is not as good now as when he rode for us!
Dekker
There has always been a smallamount of rolling at the tapes, doesnt seem any worse now than it used to be.

AndyM
Did anyone notice that Crump is never stationary at the starts, I know its only marginal but he definately isnt stationary . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Could you tell me a rider who is genuinely stationary? They are all rolling to a greater or lesser degree. If you applied the letter of the law, no race would ever start without being brought back. Time for the rope at the back wheel? DonsFanSW
so this confidence is able to make his bike that much faster down the straights? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Possibly because he has this extra confidence (and ability) to go into the bends carrying more speed than others, he is faster on the straights?? Dave67
The absolute best for this was Billy Hamill - he was the bain of our lives when he rode for other teams............strangely he seems to have forgotten how to do it this season!!!!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This must have been due to lobotomy he had just prior to signing for you lot ..........
