A Riders Reputation Preceeeding Him

Recommended Posts

Have seen it several times in slow replay, and I could not see any faults of Hans here.

Chris, the acter, Harris just laid down the bike and the ref. got fooled.

Pretty much the same thing happend at Arena at start of season when Hans passed Leigh Lanham on the inside and Leigh dropped it, there was possibly a little minor contact as per last night but some riders find it all to easy to just take a dive than stay on knowing they will lose a race position.

Hans understandibly a very frustrated rider because every time he gets near another rider of lesser ability they expect the worse and are almost waiting for that chance, its almost as bad as diving in football, soon riders will be too afraid to try and pass for fear the other will simply take a fall.

Andersen is a undoubted talent, even though he may have been incorrectly excluded, his behaviour on the t.v was out of order. Thers no wonder youngsters of today react the way they do when you get someone acting in this way. What an example to set any youngster watching on sky tv last night. Nicki Pedersen is not a good example either. The Danes deservedly won,but wether the decisions were right or wrong there behaviour was like spoilt kids. Denmark, good riders but such pratts.

The bloke is so biased its beyond belief!!   How sweet it was in the end hearing him having to accept the Danes had won.

It made up for all the biased cr@p he's spouted whilst commentating on this WC.   :approve:

Completely agree. I thought commentators were meant to be neutral, no matter what country they are in.

Personally YES!

I agree with the person who said Pearson is so full of his own importance - who CARES whether HE thought it was all 4 back or whatever - he's there to commentate on what's happening not treat us to the Gospel According to Pearson!

You could quite easily turn the sound down? Just a thought..

NAH, if you're british you support the brits don't ya!!!!

Not necessarily, Trees.

I have been, and always will be, a Denmark fan. Nope, I wasn't born there and I don't have Danish parents, but when I first started going to Speedway (1983), the best riders in the world were Danish. So I started supporting them. A bit like all those F1 fans who think Schumaker's the dog's wotsits - does it matter to them that he's German and racing against Jenson Button?

Anyhow, it brings up a problem when we're in a situation like last night, and Lupus and I famously used to get threatened in the old days of Denmark -v- England tests matches for the same thing, who to shout for. I solve the problem by not being very vocal (which is more difficult fo rme than you'll ever know!).

Last night, I reserved judgement on the Andersen/Harris incident until I'd seen the replays. I agreed (as did Mr Bobbin', who's a Team GB fan) that Andersen was hard done by. This was made worse by Harris claiming that Andersen took his leg away, when the replay clearly shows his back wheel touching the last 2 fingers on his left hand. Unless Harris has some extra limbs we're not aware off, this was not a leg. Mind you, they can be a bit funny down in Cornwall... ;)

I agree with many of the previous contributors to this thread - we all love to hate a bad guy. To many England fans in the past, the bad guy has been Penhall (think of THAT incident), Carter (how many of usshouted abuse at him for his outspoken ways?), Pedersen and now Andersen. Characters is what makes our sport - if they were all as softly spoken and uncontroversial as Todd WIltshire (one of the sport's nice guys IMO), it wouldn't be half as exciting. How many of us looked at Heat 25 and thought "Fantastic - let's see how hard Scotty can ride against Andersen in this heat"? Maybe not those exact words, but we sure looked forward to it. How many of us cheered when Jonsson appeared to stuff Pedersen in the fence, and looked forward to the fight at the end of the race? And were maybe disappointed when they made it up before getting back to the pits?

Me - I'm happy that Denmark Won, but would have been equally happy had GB won - so long as they deserved it. Denmark were the best on the night and Scott and the boys in no way disgraced themselves. Everyone had a little bit of luck go their way (what if Crumpy had won heat 25?) and a bit of bad luck as well (who'd have thought the inside gate was so crappy? and that we'd get so many inside gates?). And we all enjoyed watching Nicky P spit his dummy out.

Ha ............ what comes around goes around!

Yes that's a good example that is, "What goes around comes around" said after heat 13 in the race off

well who won heat 25 in the final?? Who came second after Crump fell??

What goes around comes around means he got me this time, maybe I'll beat him next time. I rode hard he rode hard. What happend next, could be a good question for Question of Sport dyou not think?

never gloat til it's over, less risk of looking stupid>

However in praise of SN he took his defeat like a man last night, and was dignity itself when interviewed.

Maybe we should remember that the Brits haven't always shown themselves in the best light on Sky either.......there is a phrase about glasshouses and stones I believe....? It's unrealistic to expect professional sportsman with National Pride on their heads NOT to react strongly when a decision has just been incorrectly made against them that, in their view, COULD cost them the meeting.

NAH, if you're british you support the brits don't ya!!!!

Not blindly, without question, and "because everyone else is", no!

You support the Brits if you want to, and not because bombastic tunnel-visioned folk say you should, IMO!

So, just like Andersen in the GP at Cardiff last year then. What goes around comes around!

 Errr What?

Big Long Words...............!

Actually I didn't have a clue who I was supporting last night!

Brits, Aussies, think I shouted for a Dane at one point to stay in front of a Swede!

LOL - good for you Tabs!!! I know I was shouting my head off for Hans in heat 15 to stay in front of Crump, and then Crump went and fell off.....Doh!!!!

Still no reason to go f****ng and blinding though is it,pride or no pride. So your saying if you have kids and a decision goes against them they should go of kicking walls and F****ng and blinding. Thats the point I'm making irrespective of what nation you are representing. Don't forget Speedway is a family sport and a lot of kids look up to there favourite riders, who should set a good example.
