Bit More Shale Tonight Please !

Recommended Posts

live about five miles from track, did smallmead get the rain we did at 5 o' clock this morning, hope this will help the track for the big one tonight: big storm and for about an hour it poured down, think it will still need a bit more shale though Mr Olsen ?..........Please !

A friend who watched the practice yesterday said there was the blue groove right from the start so no extra shale or anything of the sort could have been put on during the morning. I guess it will be exactly the same tonight, the least they should do is try to keep the dust at a minimum for the fans though!!!!!!!

If the track is the same as on Thursday then there will only be one winner .....Denmark..............but there will be several thousand losers on the terraces

here lies the problem..........for sure Mr Olsen would love to prepare the track to suit his countrymen but BSI and FIM know that the other night was certainly no attractive spectacle (with the exception of a few heats)....speedway will always have to win the 'first out of the gate' battle ......the SWC final is probably the worst time to experience it...not to mention the dust!

The water bowser was noticeably absent on Thursday until an hour before the meeting - i'm hoping that i'll turn up today to find some furious watering taking place on a deep surface ........and then all four teams will have a chance

It is amusing to hear people asking for more shale here and more shale there. Reading isnt a track you can just dump a load of shale on and expect it to work.

The thunderstorms throughout the day will help the track - the watering is always best when you get natural rain on it, but if they have put more dirt down, combine that with the thunderstorms and all you will get is a track that no-one will be able to race on - ride yes - race no.

Agreed it was very very dusty on thursday and after a few races the blue groove was visible, but there will be no inbetween - it will either be dusty and blue groove, or because of the weather it will be tricky and heavy.

If the storm we have been having in Swindon for the last 45 minutes hits Reading forget it. Manhole covers have been lifted and there are rivers running down the streets. The drains have given up and are spewing water out onto the roads. And I can't get sky.

The World Team Cup Final should be the pinnacle of team speedway, featuring the world's best riders battling against each other for the highest prize on a track that allows racing.

The dusty procession we saw the other night in front of a less than full stadium could've been any old run of the mill EL meeting in terms of the spectacle.

Obviously a well prepared track with enough shale that is regularly watered is a totally unrealistic propostion for the huge brains that run this event, what with all that heat & everything.

Maybe we are being harsh, & that the lads really worked hard on the track, but it clearly didn't work if they thought it would produce great speedway.

There doesn't seem to be any best practice involved in track prep, which considers how much dirt/the amount of watering in response to different weather conditions which obviously does affect things.

This aspect of speedway never seems to have enough importance, & as long as the meeting goes ahead then it is deemed a success.

Ole Olsen was one of the greatest racers never relying on his gating, so it beggars belief that he likes these dusty slick tracks.

One interesting note about all of us (including me) who were not happy with the track the other night, what with the dust and lack of shale. Having seen the sky coverage of the meeting it was interesting how Sam and Chris kept refering to the fact that practice was held prior to the meeting therefore getting the track as we all want was a hard task almost impossible with the weather so hot. There words basically not mine and they are still riding, well, I can't work out if Sam is or is not. Maybe another lesson learnt that a good clear day should be had between the practice and the laying of the track for the meeting?

Swedish captain Andreas Jonsson is slagging off the track in one of Swedens biggest papers over here... Aftonbladet. He said that the track was catastropic bad at yesterdays practice..

This is the World Team Final on a crap prepared track..

Just imagine how serious the image of Speedway will once again not be.. Dusty and rubbishslick....
