New Format Required For Wtc

Recommended Posts

How about making it 7 man teams, 2 groups of 4

each group meets each other once, top 2 in semis and grand final (like they did for teh Daily Mirror Tourney in 1973.

I think with 7 man teams we could match the Danes, Aussies and Swedes, plus it would be a real World TEAM Cup.

Matches could be staged over 2 weeks at several tracks and just maybe a Cardiff Final.

1 semi in the North and 1 in the South

Now that would be good.

I'd be happy with the current format, add a reserve, and another vote for ditching the joker.

I can see where you're coming frm t2tv but I think we need to stick with this format for at least another 5 years, and see how it goes. It's all the constant changes that we normally moan about. Only one change is needed right now.

:)

Jokers and Tac Subs out, a reserve in who you can use a maximum of 4 times to replace riders.

7 man teams would never work as there isn't sufficient depth. Some teams barely score anything when picking 5 men never mind finding 7.

i think the joker is ok but you should have to be about nine points behind, six is far to few,a team can take a long time building up a six point lead, and it can be wiped out in one race.

Like previously said, the seven man team would work if teams were more closely matched. Some matches could potentially be 5:1 all the way through, we would love it but the general public would poo poo it I think. The final at Cardif though, if GB were there would be fantastic.

I would go for 4 man teams and a fifth rider as reserve that can take upto 6 rides if a rider is injured or the team is 6 points behind. This would ensure a team picks their best 4 riders as the team. It will also make teams like USA and Finland more competitive.

I would stick with 4 Team format (don't think that England v Finland would be much of a draw), but reduce it to 20 heats with top 4 riders riding against all opponents (that's the traditional 16 heat 4 team format) plus two reserve heats, and two nominated riders heats (one for top scorers and one at team managers discretion.. The reserves would be able to have a total of 5 rides but there would be no tac subs as it is manifestly unfair that a team in third, one point behind the team in second can use one to overtaqke the team in second as very nearly happened at Poole in 2004.

Realistically there are only four countries capable of fielding competitive 7-man teams. I'm all for a 7-man competition but it should be separate from the WTC. Call it the Nations Cup or something like that run every 2nd year perhaps with qualifiers in the intervening years for other aspiring nations.

Straight 4-team league, home and away, 12 matches in all, a Grand Final if you must for the Channel 4(?) TV guys.
