Reading Semi-final

Recommended Posts

Gotta be GB and Denmark, the 2 teams with the the most strength throughout all 5 riders. It will be close though, depends which Gollob turns up, the "wind it on, round the outside, I'm coming through" or "this tracks to small, I can't be bothered" Gollob could make a difference. Hancock and Hamill will go well for USA but they'll be scraping for 3rd place at best.

Underestimate USA at your peril.

Billy Janniro has looked decent enough around Reading and on decent machinery could spring a surprise or two. Brent Werner was near enough the top visitor when Reading were in the PL, and if he has his gating dialled in, he will take a few good scalps.

Hancock and Hamill are the measure of most around Smallmead with only Sam Ermolenko as the unknown quantity. But with his position at Reading he won't want to be shown up.

I expect Middlo will warn his lads that any one of the sides could raise their game enough to match the Danes at Smallmead, it looks like being a fascinating contest.

Werner couldn't beat an egg last night. The race off will be even more cut throat he will be shown up again. Get Chris Holder in at least he's a youngster that could do with the experience.

Two to go through.

Denmark and Poland. GB to blow it as usual.

Reported on the Yahoo speedway mailing list that Pepe is out of the meeting after a crash in Sweden on Monday. Replaced by Krzystof Kasprzak.

KASPRZAK ENTERS THE TEAM

IT has been confirmed that Piotr Protasiewicz will be replaced by Krzysztof Kasprzak in Thursday's Speedway World Cup race-off.

"Pepe" was been examined in a Bydgoszcz hospital on Tuesday after a fall in a Swedish league meeting. Doctors have decided that Protasiewicz should be given a few days' rest.

"Piotr called me and declared he wanted to compete on Thursday. I need Protasiewicz in the team, but only a healthy one. Therefore we have decided to look for back-up," said Polish team coach Stanislaw Chomski.

There were two candidates - Krzysztof Kasprzak and Grzegorz Walasek. "Greg has had some motor problems lately so I decided he will not deal with them before race-off," admitted Chomski.

Kasprzak is not in brilliant form either, just returning after three collarbone injuries in a row. "Casper"admits that his physical condition has to be improved. However, he was given a chance and is already in England.

Wieslaw Jagus will probably be the Polish reserve rider on Thursday.

well we know 1 person that will be dancing a jig right now! :P:D

But Holder is an Aussie...

Not sure about this decision. It's going to put so much pressure on KK who will only have had 3 (if someone posting about him having 2 meetings for Leszno at the weekend was right) meetings back (and that's if he gets through tonight OK) before the race-off. Just hope his shoulder and his mental and physical fitness are up to such a pressure cooker situation. Walasek must have had engine issues in Poland, because any Poole fan will tell you how he's flying over here at the moment and his engines, as tuned by Boycey are doing the business for him (interesting scenario, the Aussie team manager doing the engines for one of his oppo number ;) ). Plus on his recent outing at Smallmead he did OK getting 11/6. Of the two, I'd have gone for a fit Grzegorz rather than KK, even if just on his EL form.

I was thinking that.

Do you not mean Chris Kerr Blazeaway? :P

I don't think you should write off the USA either. You know they won't go down without a fight. They probably won't make it through, but they'll certainly have a big influence on who does.

I'm going to this :D

Now Poland only have a semi fit Casper instead of Pepe, it's got to be Denmark and Team GB through surely.

Any team that has Tomasz Gollob, Jarek Hampel and Pepe Priotasiewicz

Pepe isn't in the team.

SportoweFakty are now saying Greg Walasek is in the team I think - can't be sure, but it looks like it.

It'd certainly make more sense to use Greg than an unfit Kasper. Not sure why they decided to do that. If Kasper was fit, then I'd have him in the 1-5.

Walasek NO to Reading

Grzegorz Walasek, who could easily replace injured PePe Protasiewicz in the

Reading run-off for the last two places in the SWC final, declined Poland's

coach nomination, reports www.sportowefakty.pl

According to the website Poland's coach Stanislaw Chomski contacted Walasek

by phone whilst he was on his way to the Swedish fixture. Regrettably, said

Walasek, I had to decline his offer, because there is no enough time to get

everything ready for such an important event. My bikes in England are under

care of Australian manager, Craig Boyce, and he would not be able to prepare

my bikes in such a short notice. - said Grzegorz Walasek in a telephone

interview with www.sportowefakty.pl

The website goes to say that Walasek is bitter towards Polan'd coach for not

getting a call for the 1st round at Rybnik last Sunday. Walasek doesn't

understand why

he was treated that way. Last year when together with my colleagues I won

gold medal in the SWC I was not riding half as good in England as this year.

My riding in Poland then, is comparable with the way I ride now. So I don't

understand Chomski's reasoning - said Walasek full of bitterness toward

Poland's coach..

There are voices in Poland which suggests that Chomski, coming from Gorzow,

deliberately did not pick up Walasek till the last minute. The reason ?

Walasek comes and now rides again for Zielona Gora. Gorzow and Zielona Gora

are not far away from each other and both clubs (towns) are permanently in a

state of 'a holy war'.

Walasek also dispute the way things are being done on a national level when

it comes to picking up riders to represent the country. In his words: "it

cannot be that riders get to know of being picked up two days before the

event. It is unacceptable short time to prepare everything for such a event.

What is more the case of PePe Protasiewicz shows that there was not

contingency plan in case of injury etc. It would be enough to call in time

extra two riders, instead getting into this situation.

Of course I don't mind... and to complete that story there is an interesting 'twist' to it. Just read this.

(...) Walasek's main point in decling a place in the Polish team for Reading seem to be lack of time in equipment preparation. So it is very interesting to

read what PePe Protasiewicz had to say on his website.

He seems to be is very upset that he won't be riding this Thursday at

Reading. " I have two bikes in England especially prepared for that event.

Air tickets had been reserved for some time and I have had also some scores

to settle after my mediocre performance at Rybnik. All this comes to nothing

because of that fall in Sweden - said Protasiewicz with sadness.

At the moment I have problems with walking not mentioning riding. Doctors

ordered me a two weeks break from any riding and immediately after returning

to Bydgoszcz sent me for physiotherapy.

I have asked our coach, Stanislaw Chomski, to use my bikes if any of our

riders will feel that they could do with a change of machinery. My mechanic

is able within an hour, or hour and a half to get them to Reading . They are

ready to be used. And I don't expect any gratification for this.
