Bookies Giving Money Away

Recommended Posts

I do believe the bookies have gifted us on this one.

Event one in Poland.

Only 3 firms offering odds at mo, sky, lads, hills,

Lads are offering 8/5 on Poland winning event 1, with Australia favs at 8/15

Hills are going 1/2 Poland 6/4 Australia.

With both firms GB are 6/1 and Finland are 50/1

Skybet are going evens the pair

I really can't see GB challenging in Poland, so you can afford to back both Poland and Australia and still be in profit

Apparenently ladbrokes were 3-1 poland, god knows how they came to that price in a 2 horse race.

The title of this thread is a non-sequiteur - under no circumstances do bookies EVER give money away! Better ask yourself a different question - what do they know that you don't?

thanks for the heads up. Agreed can't see GB winning in Poland. Got shorter odds for poland than you stated as I guess people are backing it down...

will pocket net £200 for a Poland win and a net £50 is Aus win

If GB look like doing anything i will place a saving bet during the meeting !!

But as long as Australia or Poland win, you're guarenteed to win. As the Brits have no chance of winning, it looks good. TBH, I can't see the Poles lossing, so no need to waste any money on the Aussies.

I bet the professional gamblers are playing this game, betting on the Poles at 8/5 and the Aussies at 6/4 :)

Very rare to see bookies making that sort of error. Quite surprised to see Ladbrokes playing in such a market, didn't think they were that big on Speedway.

Judging by their prices they don't really have a great handle on the sport either.

There's also a lot of money to made on the spread market. If you dont think the yanks will finish 3rd <or better> in the final you can sell at 2.5, now that is easy money! You can also buy the danes and aussies, and providing one of them win you cant lose, and the profit comes on the other finishing 2nd or 3rd. You can even make money on the czechs finishing last in sweden, surely a cert.

In most sports you would be correct, however, the bookies are not masters of speedway and they make several mistakes. It's just a question of waiting for them--and pouncing.

A few years ago at Eastbourne in a SWC qualifier, the line up was Poland v GB V Sweden v Hungary (or someone similar) Straight away Hungary could be ruled out, and indeed Poland as well. Poland because although that had a decent team, they were never going to beat Sweden or GB at this tricky little track. But the bookies were unaware of this.

So, it was a two horse race, and 6/4 was available on each team, an offer I took up without hesitation.

As recently as last night the bookies once again got it wrong in the Coventry V Arena match, one bookie made it Coventry - 14, this was an absurd handicap, did they not know how weakened Arena were? furthermore, were they not aware of what happened at Arena recently against Coventry? and because of that Coventry were always going to be to out for revenge! And they got it!

Another was during play of the Oxford Wolves meeting they had Wolves -2 when Ales crashed. Ok Wolves were at that point 4 down but with only Todd to win heats that -2 look like a bargin and so it proved!!

lads have now slashed the poles and oz's to 5/6 the pair.

See little point on touching the outright at the moment, because you will prob get similar price on Denmark come the final anyway, and with Australia likley to be in the race off, there price should drift

Have to echo Brit Pete on this. I worked for the magic sign for 14 years and I would be very surprised if the person who prices up their Speedway odds is very knowledgeable. The guys who price up their books in major sports are very shrewd and have an encyclopaedic knowledge of their speciality, but I would be surprised if they even have a Speedway specialist.

The key for us punters is to be patient and wait and wait for that value.

After going through all the heats I have come to the conclusion that Poland are far to short a price. I am certainly not saying thay won't win, but I make it very close between them and Austalia.

Expekt, unibet, nordicbet and a few others have yet to put their prices up so maybe there will be something there to look at.

Betfair it seems are not bothering with it, not at the moment anyway, and this is a great shame because my ideal bet here would be to lay Poland and keep a close eye on the live market.

Any other opinions?

No britpete, all bases covered,i wouldnt back gb at 100-1,i dont think they have a cat in hells chance to be perfectly honest, how ladbrokes went 3-1 poland for the heat on friday is beyond comprehension.
