i have a question on where to stay.could someone please help me with the location of the track .i.e. is it far from prague town centre and is it easy to get you?

also is it near places to eat and drink. we went to cardiff and had a great afternoon wandering around the pubs by the stadium could someone tell me if it is like that at prague.

many thanks

Cliff,

Can't believe no-one has replied to this so far !

In answer to your queries, the track is about 15-20 minutes by tram from the centre of town. There is a bar just outside the stadium that is very basic, but generally a good atmosphere if you get to sit outside with all the Poles. There are also bars behind the main stand in the stadium along with some food stalls selling mainly large sausages and bits of pork. Don't go along thinking you are going to Cardiff - the GP in Prague is a much more down to earth experience, but if th weather is good you will hopefully enjoy it all the same.

For accomodation we've stayed in Hotel Pyramida, which is on the tramline between the stadium and town. It's a pretty bog standard 3* hotel. Also stayed at the Radisson, just off Wenceslas Square, which is very pricey but a lovely hotel. There were a lot of Brits went last year and I'm sure a few of them could give you recommendations.

As the GP is outside the city centre, whilst you will see speedway fans in town before and after the meeting, the atmosphere in the city centre is nothing like Cardiff. It is a very enjoyable place to visit though and there's something for everyone.

Rico

ps Don't expect to see the whole city in 3 days. There is so much to see and do !

Prague GP is brilliant.

Last year we stayed at the Andel Hotel, it was very nice but all the action is on the other side of the river!!

So this year we have rented an apartment in Old town. This should be very local for all the main attractions if you want to enjoy Prague Centre.

As Rico has said the track is some way from the City centre but there is a tram route but obviously it gets a little crowded Saturday evening. But its full of speedway supporters so no need to feel worried !!!!

Lots of sight seeing with the castle being spectacular.

There is a thread for last years GP which actually makes interesting reading if you can find it. It gives hotels that people have stayed in and the tram routes needed to get about.

Great trip - lovely City. have been for speedway and non-speedway weekends and love it. :D

I did see on the back cover of Speedway Star that the trip that they are running to see the Prague Gp also states that they will be going to another meeting over that weekend.......Anyone any ideas as to what that is about please?

Cheers

Keith

I guess:

Librec Speedway, Czech Junior Individual (Sunday Afternoon)

Does anyone have a map locating the actual Stadium? Is it locally known as Marketa Stadium or something else? I've looked on several websites and am unable to find it anywhere, but there is a speedway track shaped stadium by the football grounds, does anyone know if thats it or not?

Help Please

It is know as the Marketa stadium, and is on the tram line, (tram 18, I can't remember for sure, but it was heading to 'Vypich' or something near to that name!). It's about 10 or 15 minutes, on the tram, from the main city centre area of the 'Old Town'. From the tram stop it is about a 3 minute walk to the stadium.

Last year was my first visit, and I am returning again this year.

You can but a 24 or 72 hour all transport pass, which allows unlimited use of the buses, trams, underground and trains, within the city limits. The stadium is within these limits.

Just buy a street map from a newsagents when you arrive and all the tram, train and bus numbers are market on the street map so navigation becomes easy.

You will be hard pushed not to enjoy yourself, it's a great laugh.

Last year we met up with several other GB travellers standing on the 3rd bend.

I have a map with the stadium on it - if you email your address I will photocopy it and put it in the post.

I went back in 2002. Treat as two seperate weekend breaks. One is a city break to the beautiful city of Prague. The other is a trip to a speedway match. There is just the one bar by the track. There is nothing else by the stadium. It is not like Cardiff, so as someone else said please don't think it will be.

Ask at the tourist info centre for the tram number to the stadium. (I can't remember it.) Give yourself plenty of time because they can get very busy, and you may not get on the first one that comes. Particularly going back to the city after the match can be a free-for-all. :D

Boat trip on the river is good, couple of viewing towers worth making the trip to as the views are pretty cool, general atmos around the city is nice, and I quite liked the torture museum. :P

Just watch for pickpockets. (Same as any tourist city really)

Ordering tickets is near impossible! I tried to pay with my card for an e-ticket but they'd not accept my card, so I thought I'd try the delivery of a tickets and the thieving swines want £35 to send the ticket to the UK. That more than doubles the sodding cost of a ticket. I'm so pissed off right now! I have everything sorted (I think) apart from a ticket for the actual speedway meeting, how hard can/should it be?

edit> problem solved, stupid, crap, terrible system clearly!

go to the travel plus tours website , www.tptours.co.uk

Cost a few ££££ more form there. I've just paid £5 less for a 1st bend seat. and it's also about £5 for a standing ticket. I also now know I'm in the front row on the 1st bend, so I'll have to make a banner!!
