Just read in Speedway Star (July 8) that East Coast USA veteran Gene Bonsignore is 58-years-old and still winning the big meetings around New York. His big rival, I know is George Lazor - just a kid at 47.

On the California side there's 50-plus Bobby Schwartz and Milke Faria, while I am certain Shawn McConnell is also around 46.

Just as well they are not Conference League riders - Messrs Peters Oakes and Morrish would have found a way to phase them out for some kid aged 12 or therabouts.

Hugh Randolph who races USA third divison is 74! He started ridiing 2 years back. Bought a bike for fun & to practice and the practice track closed so he went racing!

He also promotes at Industry Speedway. Retired fire captain - what a guy!

Hi Speedy,

A mate in San Diego told me last season that there's a guy who competes regularly in California at the age of 73. Can't remember his name.

My Anglo-American friend said it was not too late for me to change my career but I haven't stoked up me courage enough to approach Ian Thomas - yet!

Ron.
