Dave Stummings
With Reading holding this years World team Cup will the back straight stand be open? I heard the reason for it being shut was because it had a roof and no stepped terracing. Our old friends at H & S refused them permission to open it. Arena have a similar stand complete with roof with no stepped terracing but they are allowed to have members of the paying public standing in there, so why not at Reading? I must admit for such a prestigious meeting as this, if the back straight stand is not open should the meeting actually be held there! Sandie
This was the whole- will it, wont it - issue that has caused the announcing of the venue to be held back. I remember reading that Reading had to bulldoze it if they wanted any chance of the world Cup being there and the ground made good. But then everything went quiet. Anyone in the know got any official information????
Silver Bee
We've got our tickets so some info on whether we will actually be able to see would be appreciated.

Joanne
I have also got my tickets. I am going to be there mega early to get a good place to view the meeting but that is probably on the minds of everyone else
Grachan
Could they not have had the final at The Madjeski Sadium rather than Smallmead. It's only about 200 yards away after all. It is supposed to be a World Cup Final after all, and I really feel Smallmead is an embarassment when it comes to staging this type of meeting. I was at the Madjeski last Monday and it's a super little stadium. Would be perfect for putting in a temporary track and the meeting could really be sold/promoted if they had it there. There's no football at the moment after all. They could still have had the play-off at Smallmead, and those going to that would be tempted by the sight of the stadium next door when they went. I reckon they'd get a big crowd if they had it there. I'm sure there are valid reasons why they couldn't do this, but wouldn't it be great. It would be a final in a fitting place and one that would certainly get me going along, whereas having it in the current stadium, with all the parking problems that entails plus the price of the tickets, I don't think I'll be going. Steve Shovlar
Smallmead is probably the worst stadium in the elite league and will be a huge embarressment to all when the final is held there.
Guest PanthersChamp06
Agree SS, I just wish they have it and the EOES, you can put temp stands alonng the back staights and on 3/4 so all supporters would have a chance of watching it. Hackett
Not exactly the greatest racing track either is it ??? I understood that the BSI has applied to the council again - sure I read it in SS last week or week before. Got tickets for the final but somehow wishing I had not bothered ...... Sir Jasper
it will be a disgrace if they hold it there, there are far many more suitable places to hold it. Coventry, Poole Peterborough.....
Silver Bee
Well Coventry could have held the world cup, but Sandhu wouldn't move his dogs to host the final on a Saturday.
Gemini
Coventry... I think the Coventry promoter was approached but the meetings couldn't be fitted in around his dog racing. Shame because Brandon would obviously be the ideal place, having previously held Grand Prix's (or is that Grands Prix?) There is plenty of room, good track, excellent facilities and food, trendy music, disco in the bar afterwards...... What more could we wish for? Sadly it looks like big meetings will never be held at Coventry again. Edit....Looks like S.C. beat me to it. Serves me right for not using one sentence. DanTheMan
im surpised bsi have made this mistake, for a company that prides itself on image, to hold it at this venue, with no plans approved yet for changing the stadium is a joke. no offence to reading fans. Richard Tyrrell
But think of the money Postlethaite will save, and hope to make, by staging it in his own stadium!!

newbieoldboy
But think of the money Postlethaite will save, and hope to make, by staging it in his own stadium!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> BSI won't save any money by holding it at Smallmead. When will people get off JP's back and realise 1 BSI wanted and intended to hold the World Cup Final at Coventry but couldn't because of a dog meeting. 2 BSI do not OWN the Reading track, Stadium or car park they have to pay Stadia UK the going rate for the use of these weather it is for Reading or FIM use. 3 BSI will not save or make anymore money by holding it at Reading than any other stadium 4 Any changes made to the stadium have to be done by Stadia UK as they own it and if they (or the stadium manager, Pat Bliss's brother) have decided to play silly games it is not BSI's fault. Rant over RACERS FOREVER
Richard Tyrrell
Then why not arrange from the start to hold it at an established stadium that isn't in dire, immediate need of alteration ie Poole, Sheffield, Peterborough, all of which have staged successful international events in the past? Rant over RACERS FOREVER <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are spot on with the fact that there is nothing in it for this meeting for BSI. So it really does beg the question again doesn't it ??? WHY ?? There are probably 10/15 stadiums in the UK operating each week more worthy than the old dung heap. Once the new stadium is in place then I would be all for it but while accepting that there is no apparent financial gain for BSI in holding there you have to admit that was Reading not a BSI owned team there is no way on this earth or the next that this meeting would be staged at Reading. Its not doing British Speedway a lot of favours holding it at Reading, which was not a FIM track either when the decision was made I believe
Sandie
1 BSI wanted and intended to hold the World Cup Final at Coventry but couldn't because of a dog meeting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You make it sound so simple. This is a Dog meeting that has Satalite TV coverage and is contracted. Busting that contract would mean the club making a HUGE loss. The BSI needs to plan ahead. Get the 2007 venues sorted now and even forward plan for 2008. Then our sport wont look so silly in a run down stadium with no facilities and amenities. (again - sorry reading fans but it does need work)
