HI ALL

I found this old flag at a antique fair never seen one before im told its for putting on a motorbike. Can any Aces fans tell me how old it might be?

ebay item

I wish I could find things like this when I go to antique fairs!! Agewise, my best guestimate would be 40/50's - as pre-war we had a red ace as our emblem. The black ace came in after the war - but there may be older Aces fans who can pin it down more accurately. Hope this helps :D

These were quite common in early post-war years when I first became a Belle Vue supporter. They are actually car pennants which could be attached to the bonnet of a vehicle in similar manner to the monarch's royal pennant on her Rolls [i don't recall ever seeeing one on a Rolls at Hyde Road :)] They were quite common on motorbikes and some of us even proudly displayed them on our pushbikes.

I imagine they had similar ones at Coventry.

Ron.

Yes we did Ron, right up to the early 1960`s, so unfortunately it need not be as old as is hoped for.

Could be that we had them at Hyde Road at that time. As I was involved with SJAB duties around then I would be busy until we were stood down at about 11pm by which time the stadium and carpark were deserted.

I would say that this was from about the late 50's to the Early 60's. I had one for New Cross on my push bike. Cars or Motorcycles: I would have thought it would not have been suitable. They would have bent or blown away with any kind of speed or wind pressure.

Hope that helps.

I have a Eastbourne one which I didnt get until 1969, I used to have it on me pushbike, however I also have a Hastings one which must have been from 1948 or 49 as they didnt go any longer after that, also have a Westham one too.

God it makes me feel old!
