KevH
I heard at Cardiff that Wroclaw have lost the rights to the GP for next year and that in 2007 it will be staged at either Leszno or Czestochowa, with Czestochowa being the favourite - can anyone confirm? KevH
I can't... ...but I hope it's true <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In some ways so do I, and after hearing rave reviews about the new Czestochowa Stadium and track it does seem likely - having said that, Wroclaw town is a great place to visit and would be a huge loss to the travelling fans. Hazzman
Wroclaw seems to be lose its contract, its up for rewenal and if its continued its normally signed on the day of the meeting. Czestochowa's new stadium will possibly be favourite, Leszno has a decent stadium and Rynbik could have it aswell. Czestochowa I understand is not that far from the great city of Krakow. If Gdansk had a great stadium, I am sure that would be a sure-fire hit.
iris123
Nothing to do with Wroclaw apart from the fact it was there that a new venue was discussed.Big-wigs from Togliatti met with Postlethwaite in Wroclaw to discuss the staging of a GP at the new stadium they are going to build.Interesting
HenryW
I'm not sure if it would be good or bad for Wroclaw to lose the GP. It certainly hasn't delivered the on track action that the series deserves over the last few years, but the City itself has a lot going for it. It's one of the few big speedway Cities in Poland that has a surplus of quality hotel rooms. Czestochowa and Leszno would both be a disaster for travelling fans given the very, very limited hotel options in both Cities. As for Togliatti...It would be great to see the series expand into Russia, just a shame that it couldn't be somewhere a little more accessible

iris123
Still holding out for that German GP at the AOL Arena, Iris?!? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> About as much chance of that as Ferjan had of getting a Hungarian passport last year Could be worse...they could be contemplating Vladivostok. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was thinking the same.Anyway the good burghers of Togliatti ain't too happy with a GP being held in some far flung outpost on the edge of Europe called Cardiff
KevH
And can you tell who told you that ? Fans (from Poland ?) or someone more reliable ? I'm not naming names, but I'm confident it was a reliable source. And for the record, my source isn't Polish, but has excellent connections there. sjw ministerofport
Well I for one don't want to lose Wroclaw, it's easy to get to and the City is great, think again BSI please.
J_D
I heard at Cardiff that Wroclaw have lost the rights to the GP for next year and that in 2007 it will be staged at either Leszno or Czestochowa, with Czestochowa being the favourite - can anyone confirm? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This was first brought up in the winter that it was Wroclaw last year with more than likely Czestochowa replacing it given the great stadia. Russia was also mooted as a new venue for 2007 and a completed Gorican to either add to the series replace Krsko in 2008.
Joanne
Will be sad to see Wroclaw go but the stadium is getting old anyway and the racing is not so good now. Poland is a lovely country with picturesque towns like Wroclaw. We want to see them.
ballinger
Whilst agreeing that Wroclaw is a beautiful city to visit, Czestochowa would certainly be on my 'to go to' list. Their new stadium looks superb. If Togliatti joins the show for 2007, which GP from this year do you think would be dropped ? Assuming Cardiff 2008 is to be the 100th GP, it would mean only 10 GPs in 2007, as Bydgoszcz this year will be the 89th GP. I'm sure Gorican would host a super GP if it was to ever be awarded one, although hotels would be interesting as it's a bit out in the sticks. The desire to stage GPs ought in my opinion be served, as I've said before, by the re-introduction of a GP Challenge, as it would act as a juicy carrott for tracks to bid for SGP status. Rico
The program for this years GP showed a planned redevelpment of the stadium in Wroclaw. I think at the moment it is fine for viewing speedway, but if their proposals come to fruition then this would become a superb modern arena. Wroclaw has the added advantage of direct flights to and from UK as well as (I think still) Copenhagen. The other tracks mooted to take the European GP do not have this. As a city, it is one of the best I have visited and rivals Krakow in terms of ambience, however the racing in the last 2 GPs has been awful and I've come away feeling somewhat let down. The SWC race-off and final were ok but the GP in 2004, after a slow start was one of the most exciting I have seen. For me going to a GP is not just about the 3 hours of track action but the whole trip, so this is why Wroclaw is so well regarded by me, in spite of the poor GP. I'd be sad to see it go if these rumours are true. Rico
Hazzman
It looks like ten GPs next year on Ballinger's well-pointed out fact but surely if Russia and Croatia want to get in on the act, then they should have 12 GPs. The sport should grow, not knock back. What's the possibility in BSI dropping one of the Swedish rounds?!?
